Smile Important Question..

hiya, My name is May,19 years of age, from Britian (leicester) it's a tiny city and bloody boring, anywho that isn't the issue, as I was interested in studying in the USA, well i'm still at college, doing my last year, so i really dont want to start university here in the UKs.. my main passion places are San Francisco,Baltimore, Louisville, and Florida...so I was wondering if these cities or states were expensive?...I'm not looking for an expensive city, a cheap one more alike...and do I have to look for a job before i enter the US?

cheers may

Out of those choices Louisville is likely the cheapest. Baltimore and SF are expensive, SF being the most expensive. Florida varies depending on the area of the state.
Louisville will be more like most of America if you are wanting to see the real America. Baltimore is going to offer more to do, as it's just out side of Washington DC and there is enough stuff there to see to keep you busy for years.
SF I don't care for, for a number of reason I won't go into here. It's a pretty town, with interesting culture. It is in my opinion a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
3 of your choices are coastal cities and America is a pretty big place. Louisville will offer a more centrally located area that can allow you to travel to many areas of the country it a more reasonable time. Not saying any of this because I'm from KY that's just the simple math of it.
Hope this helps.

I have family in Maryland and they don't go into Baltimore unless they absoluetly have to. They say it is a very dangerous city.

If you took a national poll, most people would say that SF is the most beautiful, desirable city, but it is also extremely expensive. It is also known as a place where people with alternative lifestyles will be accepted. This might be why conservatives don't like it. Baltimore is considered to be unsafe in many parts, and it's not one of those places that people are dying to live in. Florida has some beautiful areas, but it's very hot and humid and people complain about the prices going up. It might be fine for college though. Louisville will give you a taste of an American city without the huge price tag. I'm surprised by the four places you considered. I thought most Europeans tended to gravitate towards NYC and LA.

yeah you're right about that ''Gimmie It''..when we Eurpeon people hear the word USA , the first thing that comes into our mind is NYC,ATL and LA. lol dont know why...I've been to LA and I loved it, but i wouldnt recommend myself to live their, it's really dear, I have also been to NYC well i hate to say this, the places in NYC i've been to, kinda reminds me of England, rubbish on the pavement, rude people, I can go on, but other then that, it was great, I wouldnt live either, and I think i made my mind up I am might go for SF...but the thing about SF is that they got far too many gays and lesbians down there, not that I dont have anything against it or anything I was just curious about it :-)

Thanks for the advise you all...I really Appropriate it

San Francisco is extremely expensive to live and has earthquakes (as does the whole state). It is practically known as the gay/lesbian capital of the United States.

If you don't want those things... Might I suggest you drop SF from your list. I'm from California and have lived in several states. I bet you would love Louisville and of the major cities around the U.S. it is likely to be one of the cheapest cost of living you are going to find, AND some of the nicest people anywhere are in Kentucky! I hope you check out Kentucky more. You won't be disappointed.

Louisville is a great city! My mother-in-law has lived there for years, and she's British. You will find many different kinds of people there. Also, as someone else said, it is centrally located. Nashville, Chicago and St. Louis are all relatively close.
