Question Elizabethtown grocery stores?

We will be arriving at our new home in Glendale in about a month, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the grocery store options, most of which I'm expecting will be in Elizabethtown proper.

Even if we have to go into E-town for groceries, what stores inside city limits would folks recommend? Without knowing what's available, I'd prefer to have a place to go to for good produce and meats (in case we don't get to the local farmer's market) and a place with cheap necessities and basic items.

Any pointers?

Super Wal-mart/KMart and Kroger would be the main options.

I'm wondering that myself. Haven't actually gone in yet.

Oh you also have Food Lion just up 31W in Radcliff.

Without having been to the area, I've heard nothing about Radcliff that makes me want to go there, other than as one of the main (?) routes into Knox.

From what I've read, Aldi is all over Europe and now spreading around the US, and features mostly very affordable store brands, you bag your groceries yourself, bring your own bags or pay for them, etc. For those who've been in the West Coast, it sounds a lot like the WinCo grocery stores, which we loved.

I'll have to check out Aldi.

On Radcliff, it kinda has the same problem that the Rt. 1 area in Alexandria has. It looks pretty ugly around 31W but once you get off 31W and head west it looks way better.

Aldi has mostly brands that you've never heard of before. The selection is also smaller than a traditional grocery store. But most things are cheaper. Aldi has been in this part of the state since the early 90's I believe.

Here's one that is my favorite: E. W. James, located at the corner of 31W and St. John Rd in Elizabethtown. I prefer it for a couple of reasons. First the location makes it much easier to get to than driving through all of that 31W traffic north of Elizabethtown. Second, and most importantly, the friendly and personal service that you receive from all of the employees is something that will amaze you at first, and will make your shopping experience there very enjoyable. It is almost like visiting family and friends. They don't have the selection of Krogers, but it is a far nicer atmosphere to shop in. We do 90% of our shopping at E. W. James, and highly recommend the place.

Default E.W. James. for sure.

I concur wholeheartedly with STX. I am fortunate enough to live within walking distance of E.W. James (formerly Winn-Dixie). They kept the WD staff, many of whom had been with them for eons. The service is impeccable. As every place is it will be more expensive than Wal-Mart but it is the closest grocery store to Glendale.

I shop at Aldi for the basic items (bread/milk/cereal/etc) but go to Kroger or Wal-Mart or the farmers market (Tues/Thur/Sat 7-noon) for fruits/veggies/meat.

I love Aldi; it's cheaper and with fewer selections it's a lot easier to get in and out in less time than it would take at any of the bigger stores. Even though it is off-brands, I've found just about everything to be just as good as any other brand.
