Default Cheap Place to Stay

The hubby and I will be in the area for one night to explore ETSU and the TRI city area, we also want to check out ASU in Boone. We are just looking a place to crash..that is affordable. A no frills motel will work or even a campground.(where we can just pitch a tent) Any suggestions. We will be coming in the June 29th!

If nobody comes up with a better suggestion try the Red Roof Inn just off Roan St in JC. I used it for a few nights when I first arrived in the tri-cities.
Cheap, clean, quiet, easy interstate access (although the intersection right at Roan St is a bear)
It's close to a mall, shopping centers, and lots of places to eat if you have the urge to kill some time.

Depending on how "no frills" you want to go, UNCLE JOHNNY'S
NOLICHUCKY HOSTEL is a really interesting place. I've been there but have not stayed overnight.

Tenting: $8 per night per person
Hostel: $17 per night per person

Access to the Appalachian Trail, mountain biking, plus rafting, kayaking, and fishing on the Nolichucky. It's a 25 minute drive to ETSU. Per their web site they offer free wifi.

I recommend Cardens Bluff Campground, just outside Hampton. Very scenic setting on Watauga Lake and clean, hot showers. The campground is 19 miles from ETSU and 36 miles from Appy State. A campsite is just $12.

I also like Roan Mountain State Park campground. It's a little pricey at $25 but in a beautiful woodsy setting w/ some streamside campsites, and it's also several degrees cooler than Cardens Bluff. The campground is 29 miles from ETSU and 35 from ASU.
