I ran across this article from a few weeks ago today.
:: Johnson City Press - Local News :: (http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Detail.php?Cat=LOCALNEWS&ID=59525 - broken link)
It talks about the Johnson City school boards plans for some of the schools in the near and distant future. They are still dealing with the issues of the smell at Science Hill technology building that was making the staff sick. They are also talking about adding yet another campus to Science Hill for 7th and 8th graders. They added the 8th and 9th campus just a few years ago and now having issues with the buildings so the 8th and 9th are now more integrated with the 10-12th grades.
I am sorry, some here may disagree with me, but 1. adding more grades when there is not enough room in safe buildings for the current grades seems wrong to me. 2. When you put large groups of 12-14 year olds in close proximity to large groups of 15-18 year olds on a daily basis I believe you are going to start having high school age issues (sex, drugs, etc) with the younger kids.
I know they are going to be in separate buildings and all but it still seems wrong to me. Am I looking at this as a "to sheltering" of a parent here?

The ninth grade was at the main SHHS campus several years ago when my eldest went there. Although I personally prefer ninth grade staying on the adjacent campus, we did not notice any difference from when the other children attended. They say they want to keep one school as long as necessary to avoid any "gang" issues....? We have had nothing but excellent experiences at SHHS. I would recommend it without reservation.
