We need a new theatre in either Kingsport or Johnson City...I just came back from the one in the Kingsport mall and felt like I had to shower in bleach for an hour. I'm pretty sure there are big city porno theatres that are cleaner than the one in the Kingsport mall....not to mention cheaper. The people who run it ought to be ashamed of the state its in....

For "second run" movies for $3, I love:

Real To Reel‎
130 West Springbrook Drive, Johnson City, TN‎ - (423) 282-2131‎

JC's main, but very expensive cinema:

Carmike 14 Theaters‎
1805 North Roan Street, Johnson City, TN‎ - (423) 929-7151‎

The TRI's best cinema for "value":

Tri-Cities 7 Cinema‎
354 Shadowtown Road, Blountville, TN‎ - (423) 279-0946‎

I love Real to Reel. They definitely show movies that otherwise would never make it to this area, especially through the State of Franklin Film Society's viewings.

I also like the new Phoenix 7 in Greeneville. Quite nice and fairly inexpensive.

Has anyone ever seen a movie at the Cinema 1 & 2 in Erwin? I always thought it looked kind of nostalgic situated on Main Street.

The Kingsport Pavilion is sadly going to put a nail in the coffin of the old Ft Henry Mall, and what is the worst part is that Kingsport Pavilion is about 15 years ago in terms of development "trends." What I mean is that in another 15 years, Kingsport Pavilion will probably be replaced by another "hot strip retail center in Kport" and the stores will become vacant alongside highway 11W.
OK, maybe that is extreme, but it is what happens with big-box, not-well-planned-out "suburban" style developments eventually. What *should* have happened in Kport is a passage by the city council to focus all future developments that would be built, to have to be built within the city core, ie, downtown.
That way, a couple of the big box stores could have located in downtown, and the other stores that have come in there could have gone into existing retail in and around Kport--thus, allowing for Ft Henry Mall's continued existence. It's a great mall in my opinion--great layout, good size--for the city of Kport and surrounding retail market draw.

Unfortunately in this case (worst case anyway), Kport will be left with a vacant (eventual) Ft Henry Mall, and then another shopping strip with the pavilion that is most likely destined to bland emptiness in the next decade or so.

Just another case of bad planning and sprawl. Which is the absolute normal for most cities in the United States today.

I have seen several movies in this theatre in Erwin. For the price and comfort it is very nice. Although hard to see a movie on opening night that is a big draw.

What are the main stores in that mall? J.C. has Belk, JCPenney, Sears and Macys...The Ft Henry Mall was like a ghost town since 2006 when the old Proffitt's was there. I wanted to buy, but it was a ghost town, rather depressing.

It was very poor planning on the part of the city and the developers. I am so sick of this sprawl. We need to revitalize the downtown area and turn it into the hub of Kingsport instead of putting everything on the damn outskirts.
