Erwin is in Unicoi County, 54% of which is government-owned. There is very little farmland or land for sale within reason. We looked last year ... the things within our price range were absolutely terrible.

You might try Carter County ... you would still be fairly close to your friends.

Good luck to you!

Unicoi County is also a very small and mountainous county. As of 2002, the county had just 9300 acres of farmland (8% of the county's total land area).

Carter Co. is bigger and a bit less mountainous than Unicoi, but it still offers just 37,000 acres of farmland (17% of total land area).

A better bet, IMO, might be the Telford/Limestone/Washington College area in eastern Greene Co., which is a short drive from Erwin. Greene County is large and it has approx. 247,000 acres (62% """) of farmland. The countryside there is stunning with the gently rolling hills & mountain backdrop.
