It's sillyto attempt to isolate crime in Johnson City from any other close small town or region. People migrate, so does crime, and it's all part of the SAME MSA (metropolitan statistical area) !

"FEELING SAFE" has nothing to do with the hard facts and stats. 'Witnessing' crime, or not reading about it doesn't have anything to do with what occurs factually. Everyone wants to 'feel' safe in their community.

What real estate propfessional or local lender whose livlihood DEPENDS on house trades would say anything else but crazy stuff like " heck I don't see any crime", or "that was in another community, not mine", or stuff like " I love it here, come on down...I can help sell you a house or get you into one of my excellent mortgage subprime products" ?
Wow, JAAP,don't you ever get tired of carrying that big load of cynicism around every day? Not everyone on this forum is a loser, redneck or corrupt real estate professional or mortage lender. The majority of us have moved to this area because we like it (I know, this must be a foreign idea for you) and wish to share OUR PERSONAL OPINIONS. They aren't God given mandates, just the way we see the area. No, this area isn't perfect. Please show me one that is!! There are areas where I wouldn't want to walk at night. But, I've also lived in a city where there were areas that the EMS refused to go into without police backup and where they had to shut down the mall on certain football game days due to looting and shootings. You just won't find that here. So, if that makes me a corrupt real estate agent, then so be it!!

dc, don't worry about it, the person you were responding to, come to find out, was a troll and had all kinds of fun stirring people up. They are now gone so no worries.

I know, that is the crazy part. These sites DO list in such a way that the cities in the Tri-Cities look (on paper) like we are some kind of crime meca, but come visit, look around. Talk to police officers, sheriffs dept. I am not saying that these sites have anything against the Tri-Cities nor are people that live here misleading anyone on the truth about crime here. Sure there is crime, there is some kind of crime everywhere in the world. But compared to all the places in this country I have visited and lived in, I can honestly say I feel very safe here and I just do not run into crime. Sure I hear about it on the news and I have even had a brush with it via my parents. They had tools stolen out of their house when they were working on it before they moved in. Come to find out it was the contractors son's friend who had a drug problem and he sold the tools for drug money. He is in jail. That is the only "crime" insidence I have run into in the 10 years I have lived here. So yea, there is crime, but it isn't like South FL where I lived before here. I saw drug deals, while driving my son to day care. I heard gun shots and then saw on the news that that sound was when someone died in a bad drug deal. Houses were being broken into while people were asleep in that home. And this town was concidered an "upscale" town in FL. That kind of crime does not happen here on a regular basis and are very far and few between. But like I said, don't take my or anyone else's word for it, come visit, stay awhile, look around, find out for yourself.

Speaking of crime, five young men ranging from 18 to 20 years old were just arrested for several arsons and may be connected to many more. Three were from Jonesborough, one from Telford, and one from Limestone. Thank goodness they were caught, according to the news article, they were doing this for kicks. Well, hopefully they won't be bored in their new surroundings. I'm sure Bubba will find something for them to do.

Default Crime Rate Comparisons Website

I went to Miami one day to pick up a friend from the airport, in 3 hours I saw 3 fights on the street, 4 drug deals and one car on fire and was propositioned by a woman (I am a woman!) while at a stop light. I have live in North East TN for 10 years and not seen those things, ok 1 fight between cousins in a parking lot.
Hey all, I found this site and put in lots of different major cities and the stats looked right to me, based on what I've heard in the news and know first hand. Fact is, 7 murders (2006, based on an earlier post) for a town of 50K (JC) is not a low rate. Compare that to cities the size of Chicago, New York, L.A., and the proof's in the puddin'.

I honestly am not disturbed at all by those stats and wouldn't hesitate moving to Tri-cities because of it. There's crime everywhere, you just have to be sensible and not naive. Crime in this country is primarily related to drugs and within one's own circle of acquaintances. All the gated communities across the country, and I'm sure there are some in the Tri-cities, are testament to the American crime phenomena. There's no Utopia. All I'm looking for is a slower pace in a more beautiful environment where people are generally nice and friendly and the weather is fairly mild. I'm sure I'm going to love it there.

mb, I do not believe that this person should be banned. While I may not agree with much that was stated, I cannot see where this person was out of line. She did not attack any single person or business. You have to let them have their say, no matter how disagreeable it may be. There are, after all, plenty of intelligent people on here to rebuff them when they're wrong. As long as the language is clean and there are no personal attacks, you should let them have their moment. After all, this is America.

I agree, I didn't have much of an issue with what they posted here on the TN forum, with a few exceptions of the nasty/offending ones I had to delete. However it is what they have have done and said on other state forums here on C-D. They have also been baned several other times under different names. That is not something the owners of this site allow. All I can do is follow the rules too and it wasn't even me that baned them.

Actually, you don't have to let them have their say. This board/site has an owner who sets the rules and decides who gets to post and who doesn't. When you join a board, you check your free speech rights at the door. If you don't like the rules, you just go elsewhere.

Trolls are trolls...off with their heads!

Personally, I like arguing with them. mb, you know how bored I am now, and you're taking away my entertainment.

There are some places here in Bristol that I would not want to park my car... @ night anyway. Like in the north part of downtown.... I would not want to leave my car in that bad area.
