Tree Streets area
Locals - please tell me everything you know about the Tree Streets area. I
found a website that said they have walking tours through there at Christmas,
so I'm assuming everyone really decorates their homes beautifully. True?
I spend over 4 hours on realtor.com and could only find 2 houses for sale -
neither one of which appealed to me. Are all of the houses old? Is it a really
neat area? Are the homes & yards kept up really well? Is it safe?
I'm not sure what all to ask.....just tell me everything you know that I may have forgotten to ask.
Not asking much, am I? Thanks in advance!

Someone just posted a link with some great info about the tree streets a few threads back, here is the link: http://www.city-data.com/forum/kings...on-city-4.html
I personally like the looks of the tree streets, but wouldn't want to live there. Reason being it is in the city and I am not a city person, but also because on one side of the tree streets (which is about 3 square miles worth) you have ETSU. Even though it is not know to be a "party school" I wouldn't want to be close to it for traffic reasons and such. On the other side is South Roan and in that area, just east of S. Roan is one of the poorer and might even be considered "projects" of the area. The police know the area and residents very well.

Ha! Thanks for the memories! I went to ETSU in the 80's and rented a part of a house on a Tree Street. I was in a sorority and a little sister to a fraternity that had a house on a Tree Street. I haven't been down those streets in years, with all of the sprucing up looks like I need to take a drive!

The Tree Streets area is a designated historic district w/ at least 450 homes over 50 years old, most of which were built in the '20s and 30s. It's a very nice area especially in the fall, w/ lots of colorful maples and oaks. And as you'd expect in an older neighborhood, sidewalks. Most of the homes and lawns are very well-maintained, though the rentals (primarily occupied by ETSU students) can be a little rough around the edges. There are several fraternity houses scattered around the area. I think it's a generally safe neighborhood.
In a brief search of 3 local realtors' sites I found 5 homes listed in the area, which I'll PM to ya.

Thanks so much you guys. You're helping me narrow things down. I'm not
an "old house" person, but that website makes it all sound way cool. Being so close to the college isn't my cup of tea either, so I'll carry on!
Kamoshika, thanks so much for the links. Yes, that last one is more of what I'm looking for. Thanks for your imput guys!! I knew I could count on you!

Well, call me embarrassed! I knew I had written another post about the area,
but I couldn't find it and figured it hadn't gone through for some reason. I actually wrote 3 posts, so if another one shows up, just ignore it! Computers! They're so stupid!

Tree Streets Area
I spent my younger years in the tree streets area, Basically the 1970's. I lived in a apartment complex call Montrose Court. My father owned this place
it was a great place to grow up. When then move to a house on Locust street. My grandmother still has a house on the tree streets. We also have several apartments we rent out to college students. Most of the houses are all old. 1880's-to the 1940's. We have one now built in the 1880's. It seems alot of them where built in the 1920
-1940s. Moderator cut: advertising is not allowed . There are a few, and i mean under 10 homes built in the last 20 years. As far as your impressions of it be neat lawns and decorated for Christmas like out of a painting or something. It is hit and miss. Some houses look decked out and some have a plastic wreath on the door for christmas ect. The blocks of the 600's, 700, and the 800's are the nicest and the most expensive. the houses run from the low 80's to the 200's and 300's. I guess 160 being the average. Joey Booth in Johnson City
