I am starting to think about installing granite counter tops in my kitchen. Does anyone have any experience with any of the local suppliers/installers which they might share.....good, and bad? Any recommendations?

Okay, i have heard from a few people who have used various granite contractors.

The names which have been mentioned are Preston McNees, Cameo, and Elliot. Do any of these names resonate with anyone out there...either good, or bad?

Appalachian Stone works in Gray, also there is a place on the Bristol Hwy in Piney Flats across from Partners that sells granite. I'd try both of those.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.
I'm about to replace our kitchen counters but not sure if we're gonna do granite or not...basically all we're positive about is no laminate.
Keeping that in mind, any other recommendations beyond what was listed above?
Thanks

Since my original post...i would suggest Tim Elliot, Applachian and Preston.....i have some of their work, and seen some of it...all good providers.

Just MAKE SURE you go with a place than has CNC machines to cut the stone. The fine (straight, even) edges make all the difference. Go look and get the 'tour'.

Talk with Tim Elliot (Elliot Assoc.) ...very sensible, pracitical, smaller operation with strong technical, and artistic, skills. Some of the bigger providers are a little too 'mechanical'.

Ted,
Thanks for the ideas.
I've dealt with McNees through my work but normally just cabinetry (no tops) or their cheaper tops. I'll definitely look into all 3.
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of prices you seeing per square foot?
