We can kid oursleves with all of these 'alternative energy' ideas...solar, wind, wave, geothermal, etc., but at the end of day it has come to preoccupy our every motive...from Gubment to private citizen behavior...and we are barely better off than we were 40 years ago. Other than supporting the demand for oil and fueling our war machine, where has it gotten us?

Nuclear power is the only viable option. It is clean, safe, reliable and scalable to a size which can meet our needs without having a kazllion solar cells or wind generators littering our lanscape. It is one thing to light a few rural homes with alternative technologies, but how are we going to light a few million homes in Chicago, or several million in New York?

It would be a logical extension of the TVA system to use their existing resources to support nuclear power plants. Small footprint; big economic impact.

mum has a prius, she loves her car for around town driving...but id never own one...
they are very expensive, and have terrible traction especially when running battery...

i mean she can go 3 weeks between filling up but there has been many days that even when the drive is clear of snow and ice the prius cant get up because it hits a patch of sand from the de-icing process...whell be driving on the main roads, again clear but sand along the edges and if she gets too close to the sand the car looses traction very easily...
i think there perfect for mild DRY climates with lots of around town driving...but not ideal for anywhere that gets snow or lots of rain.

this is aparently a big issue with alot of hybrid and pure electric cars, when running in electric mode they just dont have the power needed to get them through slick spots especially on an incline.
if you get it going on gas (ie get up to speed befor hitting our driveway, shell struggle but usually get through, but you have to GUN it to get the gas to kick in to pull you through)

in terms of gas prices...everyone keeps telling me south is cheap for gas...but right now you guys are only about a quarter behind our prices...

im actually giving serious thought into if it might be possible to convert my gas powered sebring into a bio-deisel car LOL! (its not, but how cool would that be)
i got my sebring because its got front wheel drive (better for snow/ice) was in great condition, clean car fax, and was the right price (used)
but shes a v6 with less than perfect gas milage (20-27 seems to be her average)
at this rate ill be trading my car in for a push bike and train tickets!

I got gas yesterday at $3.29,9 a gallon. If the Middle East does not settle down... cant wait to see what the Summer Vacation time price will be.

A little more turmoil or "democracy" in the middle east and we will be at $4 gal gas by spring and maybe $5 by summer.....glad that I DID NOT buy that new truck I wanted a few months ago with that awesome V8 engine. I'll keep my little 4 banger for the wife and son, plus my inline 6 Jeep, all old but paid for.

if you want a fuel effiecient truck man look at the new fords my dad just got one with the economy v6s in it, good mileage and can do about anything the v8s could.

I was thinking about that new turbo V6, HP ratings of the V8 but with good gas mileage. Hopefully reliability will be there, I love Fords, and Toyota's, but all brands have had recent problems with reliability.

I see gas is coming down a lil, the Walmarts on 11E is now $3.21, at least it's down $.04 and not up $.25....... thanks for the small blessings.

The thing I don't understand is why folks are buying in to the trouble in the middle east as The Only reason for gas prices going up. Before the protesting ever started, it was said that gas prices may go as high as 5 bucks a gallon within a year. Now, the middle east is being used as an '' excuse '' for the '' already planned '' price increases.

I have heard the $5 thing for years now. The planning must be running slow then.

The oil markets run like the Monetary Exchange Rates do. If you have troubles in an Oil bearing country... the price will climb. Libya is one of those countries.
