Hi!
Your situation is not the norm here in East TN, but you would not be the only couple around. I think the tri-Cities would be more accepting than a small rural area in my opinion. I don't think you will have a problem. There are many large hospitals here. Mountain State Health Alliance manages a few. There is Johnson City Hospital, North Side Hospital in J.C. There is Holston Memorial in Kingsport and Welmont Hospital. There are also some specialty hospitals too in the area. We just closed a mortgage today for a nurse and her family that moved here, she works for Welmont and LOVES it!
Hope that helps!

Yes, there are a few really great Hospitals here in East TN. See my post above for the names and towns they are in. From what I understand they are ALL hiring too!

mbmouse, I notice all of your replys are incredibly possitive regarding the tri-cities area and Eastern Tennessee. While good information about an area is great, it is honest, unbiased opinions that are the most helpful - are you a realtor in that area?

No, I am not a Realtor. However in my profession (mortgage broker) I do work with a lot of them and know some really good ones. If you like I can recommend a few to you? I have no attachment, or affiliation with them other than a professional and personal respect for the way they do business. The same goes for anyone I refer to or recommend to anyone here. I just LOVE East TN!!! hahahahah
Please don't get me wrong, East TN is not Utopia but for me personally, it is the best place to live and raise my children. I came from FL and just the difference in the way of life and enjoyment of life here verses there is wonderful. I know a lot of it has to do with mind set too hahaha. I just like helping others and I can empathize with those moving to the area from else where. I too, like a lot of others here, moved here with out knowing anyone so it is kind of a hobby of mine to make it a bit easier for others if I can. As well as my own, in my line of work I do hear a lot of stories and adventures, good and bad, of clients experiences that I can share, yet still keep their anonymity, to maybe help others make their move easier.
Thank you for the compliment, It makes me feel good to know my information is helpful and noticed as unbiased. I appreciate you! (which is a really nice phrase I have picked up here in East TN, never heard that before I moved here and it is really nice to hear and say and know it is meant from the heart)

peach49; There are two major hospital systems here, Mountain States and Wellmount...they operate large hospitals in Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol. There is also a medical school in Johnson City. One thing mbmouse did not mention is that signing bonuses of up to $10,000 is available for nurses at these hospitals...check us out.
