Mount Carmel is a little town that is just a few minutes out (west) of Kingsport. It is a nice little area with nice people. There is a mixed of housing, from historic, to needs a paint brush and hammer to very new. From what I have been told the school is good. The HS is Volunteer which is pretty good too. The views are beautiful. Safe, yes. For medical, again, you are just few minutes out of Kingsport that has two large hospitals, Holston and Indian Path. Lots of good specialists in Kingsport too. My office is right on the Kingsport/Hawkins County line, I grab lunch many days in Mount Carmel at this little place called The Dairy Cup. They are known more for their ice cream and shakes but they have the BEST burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches too. Kind of an institution in the area as it has been there forever.

Thank you, mbmouse for all of your great insight. Sadly, I am unable to come up with anything in East TN, so it looks like we are going to wind up in West TN. I have a friend there and she found a house for us to rent. My only thought is that when I have some vacation time, I'll have to come to East TN and see if maybe we can make ANOTHER move in a year or so. Sigh. Anyway, many many thanks. Best of wishes to you all.

I hope everything works out for you and good luck where ever you land.
And either way, Welcome to TN!

mbmouse, I used to go to the Dairy Cup all the time, while growing up. Is the Dairy Hart in Church Hill still open? That was my favorite.
Anyway, to comment on ca2tn's post: Mt Carmel has little to nothing of a "town." It's more of a long, main road strip of banks, a few restaurants, a city hall, hardware stores, a couple of minor strip malls, and neighborhoods to the north of the town. The unique thing about Mt Carmel is the fact that it only has "one side" to it's town. The main street runs parallel to a 4 lane highway, 11W, and on the south side of 11W, there is government-owned land that is fenced in (wooded with deer everywhere). So, there is not any available land on the south-side.

Thank you so much. Very much looking forward to our new adventure. Excited to learn to become a Tennessean.

The original Dairy Hart has closed. The business name and the famous grill were sold. The new owners have placed the business elsewhere in Church Hill. We haven't been to the new establishment yet.
