Hello,

I am looking for information regarding this plant. I would like to hear from people that work hear and can give me an idea on the future of this plant. I saw that Domtar had closed a mill in Maine and I am wnodering if there are any rumblings about this mill in TN?

Thanks

That plant is home of N America's newest paper machine and the converter plant in Ridgefeilds has set numerous world speed records. They are solid plants and are not going anywhere.

The Domtar mill in Kingsport has had no layoffs in the past few years. It's a tremendously efficient operation. FWIW, their 400 employees here average $23 per hour. In a recent interview with the Kingsport Times-News, the plant manager had a very optimistic outlook for the plant's future.

Default Employment Domtar...

How does one go about applying at Domtar ? Anyone know ??

My husband is a very experienced (11+yrs) industrial journeyman mechanic with all sorts of certifications, DOL , welding, etc. He has tried to apply several times online and there never any job postings . So he went there in person and was told he had to go through the career center downtown ??

I'm not sure what their hiring process is but they hired 18 people last year, all of whom replaced retirees. Their wages are very high for this area so their turnover is quite low.

You have to have 5 years of experience and have high scores on the WorkKeys test, which you take at the Career Center.

Also, from what I recall, no one can start on maintenance. Everyone starts on production, then they can move to maintenance.

Default Thanks...

That seems strange that nobody could start on in maintenance. Husband worked in JC in industrial maintenance for 10yrs and now at the big E and was hired on in maintenance. He has passed all the work keys stuff.

I am going to research into this Domtar thing a little more and see what I come up with.

I have heard many great things about Domtar...just find it frustrating to try to get on there.

I imagine it has something to do with the fact that they are unionized, which is also why they have the highest wages in the region.
