ETSU has not historically cared about ugly buildings, and I am scared that it will be an eyesore right next to the dome, which others consider an eyesore (I like the dome). Personally, I think ETSU or anyone else should be able to build whatever that they want, whatever it looks like, on any property that they own. But even though they have the right to make an ugly building next to the main rd doesnt mean that they should.

Finally! For what it's worth, I would be willing to triple our parking fees ($25 to $75) and build parking garages on both the west AND east ends of campus.

I paid way, way more than that at UTK and parking was still crappy.

I agree that I hope the building is designed with aesthetics in mind. Also, I hope they take this opportunity to rework the road configuration right there - the four-way stop is mind-bogglingly congested at certain times of the day.

Can someone enlighten me about the Gym, now that it has been brought up? Was that building "there", as part of something which was previously on the property...like a big barn, or industrial shed or something?

Or was it built 'intentionally' to look like that in recent years? If is was built recently, then yes, i would very much think they need public input on what is appropriate in terms of an aesthetically pleasing parking garage.

It's "their" land, but it's my tax dollars...and based on the gym, i want a say!!!

Are you talking about the Dome? It was built in the mid 1970's. It was intended to look like a similar building at Idaho State, but we screwed it up by trying to fit it into too tight of a space. The old football field was in that spot, and we wanted the new field to take up the same footprint as the old one. So yes, it was a conscious decision to make it look like that, but that was back in the 1970's with better intentions that it turned out to be.

Thanks JC...yes...the quanset hut like thing along SoF...that is called the Dome? They did that 'intentionally'? I stay acorss the street when i am in town, and 'see' it more than most, i guess.

I guess it was a good idea on paper, but it doesn't fit at all with the rest of the things on the campus.

Have to keep an eye out for the garage plans......

Basketball and football were not meant to be played in the same space, and that is where the builders of the minidome erred greatest.

Recently, King College nailed their beautiful and intimate basketball gymnasium, and Science Hill nailed the design of their stadium so much so that ETSU should play there if football ever returns.

Well, according to my understanding, it won't be any of your tax dollars going into the parking garage.

Anyone know how they funded the mini-dome? A lot of these buildings (e.g. the CPA [gym building]) were built using student fees.

To my understanding, they are still paying for the Dome. Not exactly sure how it was financed.
