Tennesseestorm - don't know if you're male or female, but East has been known for a long time for their girls' sports. Did you play? The boys' baseball team has historically been real good, and whew, has football ever caught up in recent years. The new coach (hired about 5 years ago) has breathed excellent life into East's football.

Ginny risso - it never occurred to me that the reason you might be asking is for future scholarships, until I read Unite's post. If that's the case, let me tell you about the Tennessee lottery scholarships.

Every student who graduates from a TN high school and has either a 3.0 GPA at the end of 12th grade or a 21 composite ACT score is eligible for and can easily receive a $4,000 lottery scholarship (aka Hope scholarship) to attend any college in Tennessee. All they have to do is file the FAFSA (Free application for federal student aid) their senior year of high school.

Colleges these days will only award sports scholarships to athletes with good grades. The kids have got to have it all. High school students should register with the NCAA clearinghouse during their junior year of high school.

Granny I am a guy, but never played any high school sports. I was active in basketball in middle school and elementary schools. Due to some physical problems, then a bad automobile accident (that was not my fault) in my senior year, I never got involved in any high school sports and unfortunately, that accident caused me to "put off" my college education for a year, which was a mistake, because I never went back. Something about that and an 18 year old getting $20K somehow put out the college thinking for awhile. Looking back, how I wish I had of saved that money and went to college ASAP. I want (or wanted) to major in meteorology, but I would have to go to Asheville, which I cannot do now, because I help out with ill grandparents and I do not even know if I am smart enough now to get into college. lol. Seems like I forgot everything. I was never good in mathematics anyway. I was always an A+ speller though and won medals in school. I won the gold medal in 1982 spelling bee. I never was the smartest person in class... normally always made B's and C's, but some A's and rarely a D (but it happened sometimes in mathematics), but I never failed a grade the entire 13 years I was in school. I never took the advanced classes either. My dad was always the smart one in my household. He always made straight A's in everything. Too bad he never went onto college. He is 51 now, but I still try to get him to go. I think he could do anything if he put his mind to it. He is retired from the Army of 13 years and currently a professional artist, making a decent living.

I did not go to county schools until the 9th grade, because we moved to the county from the city. It was sad to get broken away from my friends that went onto Bristol Tennessee High School, whom I had went to school with many of since kindergarten in 1981 @ Holston View Elementary. Wow, that seems like a lifetime ago. Where does the time go? Some of my friends from city schools went to East as well from city schools, but most all were in different classes. My last two years there, I was very active in marketing class and DECA. I was only there about 1/2 of the day in 11th and 12th grade, because I was in "co-op" and worked a few hours a week at a FF restaurant.

I had some older teachers there that I really liked and I wonder if they have passed on or not. I do not recall a class of 94' reunion... if there was one, I never heard of it and missed it. I would have probably been better off going to the one at BTHS, because I had alot more friends there. I only am in touch with about 10 or 11 of them... never see anyone else... I wonder if they even still live around here and where are they working.

Have you been at SEHS very long?

Been at East 9 years, since '99.

The Lottery scholarship is also available for ANY student of ANY age - no matter whether or not they even graduated from high school - at one particular college- Tennessee Technology Center near Elizabethton. A person can major in a 12 to 18 month study of Welding, Diesel Mechanics, or any number of other choices. The scholarship is $2,000 and the cost is about $2,100.

Can't be that with a stick ....
