General Questions about the Tri-city Area
Good morning everyone.
My husband and I are thinking about moving to the Johnson City area. I have read many of the previous posts so I have a general idea about the area but still have a few questions. I am concerned about my husband being able to find a job there, I have searched the newspapers and some other websites about jobs and cannot find anything concrete. He has been a mechanic for over 17 years and is a master technician (ASE certifications). I know that in the Tri-city area there are 3 5star Chrysler dealerships, does anything know which of them have a better reputation than the others? Are there jobs available for him there? I keep hearing about "the good ole boys network" and am concerned that he may not be able to "crack that nut".
Also, does anyone know of any youth competitive basketball teams in the area? I have a 13 year old son that loves the sport and plays here.
Thank you for all of your help.

No, not to specific, that is good here, the more direct/specific the questions, usually the better, more informative answers you will get. However myself personally, I know nothing about that industry, I am lucky enough to have an engineer hubby that loves working on cars.
The only thing I can suggest is send a resume to every dealership listed in the area, one is bound to bite. But I am sure no one is going to hire him without an interview so I am sure you will have to make a trip so when you do, bring copies of the resume and hit any of them you might have missed the first time around.
As far as sports for your son, there are bunches of civic and traveling teams as well as in school for many different sports, so he should find a team to play on no problem.
Hope that helps some?

There is still a good ole boy network in Johnson City, but not nearly as much there as other small towns surrounding the area. With his experience he should find a job no problem in any of the tri-cities.

Here are a few that I know are all 5 star dealerships, hiring mechanics and their contact information.
Tim Marburger Auto Group 2638 West State Street Bristol, TN 37620
Phone (423) 764-0161 Fax (423) 764-5145 Person to contact: David
Grindstaff Chrysler Dodge 2226 West Elk Avenue Elizabethton, TN 37543
Phone (423) 542-2187 Fax (423) 547-7622 Person to contact: Ronnie Davis ext. 6340
Carl Gregory Chrysler Jeep Dodge 3700 Bristol Hwy Johnson City, TN 37601
Phone (423) 282-3011 Fax (423) 283-8611 Person to contact: James Johnson
I would send the resume to each of these and then give them a call a couple days later. As far as basketball goes, there are several leagues in the area, as well as the public schools, and the YMCA. Your son would have his choice of where he wanted to play. Good Luck!

Hi Lookin -
I just got an email from Ashley today. She has planned a girl's day out and I am going to her castle in October. (We are sorority sisters). She and her hubby Steve own the Grindstaff dealerships. Let me know if you want me to drop off a resume.

Boy that IS a little castle LOL!. I drive by their house quite often, great location too. Everyone in the area knows who lives there by the big "G" landscaped into the yard too hahahhahaa.

Good morning Smoky-
Thank you sooo much for the offer of dropping off a resume. I will try to get his resume done before your girl's day out. We have not been able to get an exact date as to when we will be moving, we just know that it will be between January and June of 08. Do you know if they are hiring and do they hire often? Thank you so much for your time on this.
