Nope.
I think Nashville has something similar, but not here in North East TN.

So much for the 24 dollar wheel tax. It just got voted up to 50 dollars which is more than I was paying annually in Florida. That is $50.00 per vehicle.

Yes, that does kinda stink, but on the other hand, because they increased the wheel tax by $26 they then in turn REDUCED the property tax by $0.11 per 100 so the average 200k home used to pay county tax of $1,230 will now pay $1,175 which is a difference of $55.00 a year, so in essence, property owners get free wheel tax and renters will feel the burden more heavily. I think it is just a switching of pots of money and where they go to.

Here is a clip from the article:
Commissioners also set the property tax rate for property owners at 2.35 cents per $100 of accessed value. Commissioners say that number should come down by eleven cents on July 1, 2008 when the wheel tax kicks in.

My understanding of the new wheel tax is that the new 50.00 will be added to the old 24.00 making the new fee $74.00.

Unless the article linked below got it wrong or I simply misunderstood it (which is highly probable ), the commissioners voted to hike both the wheel tax and the property tax (from $2.00 to $2.35 per $100 assessed value). So the owner of a home appraised at $200K will now pay $1,175, an increase of $175. If they roll back the property tax to $2.24 then the tax payment will be $1,120.
