Default Church Hill/MtCarmel

Hi, anyone know anything about Church Hill &/or Mt Carmel, like cost of living, utilities, taxes, shopping, hospitals, airport, weather (tornados, humidity, snow) don't think hurricanes would be a factor. Appreciate any info, good or bad. Thanks

Hello,
I moved your post the the Tri-Cities sub forum as the area you are asking about is really a suburb of Kingsport. As for cost of living, that would be relative to where you are coming from, if it is FL, CA or AZ, it is CHEEP! If it is Ohio or Iowa, maybe about the same. You can get a really nice 1700 sq foot house for well under 200k if that gives you some idea? Utilities are also relative. As for hospitals and shopping, that would be in Kingsport about 5 miles from Mount Carmel. The Hospitals there are great and there is all kinds of shopping including a Mall. My office is just over the Sullivan/Hawkins county line and I drive to Mount Carmel (2 miles) several times a week to get my lunch and the Dairy Cup. Nice little community, great people!

Cost of living: Homes a little more than some other nearby areas since Mt. Carmel is so convenient to Kingsport. According to city-data.com (isn't that where we are? <g>), cost of living here is well below the national average.

Utilities - TVA electric, generally one of the less expensive in the country. Water is much more than we paid in NY, which I understand because the water distribution area is so large for a much smaller population. Our monthly water bill is usually $25-$30. Your usage may vary.

Taxes: Compared to upstate NY? We are in heaven now.

Shopping: Almost all major chain stores are here, and more coming. You can also travel to Johnson City or Knoxville easily.

Hospitals: See mbmouse's reply. We've not needed one since being here.

Airport: Tri-Cities regional about 20 minutes away. Small airport at Surgoinsville about 10 minutes away.

Weather: Tornadoes really rare. Humidity levels in the daytime, even now during a super heat wave, generally near 40%. It increases often to near 100% just after dawn (fog), then drops again as sun comes up. Snow total last year, under 3 inches. Year before that, 5 inches. Record single snowfall 15 inches, many years ago (in April).

Hope that all helps!
