Cost of living: Homes a little more than some other nearby areas since Mt. Carmel is so convenient to Kingsport. According to city-data.com (isn't that where we are? <g>), cost of living here is well below the national average.
Utilities - TVA electric, generally one of the less expensive in the country. Water is much more than we paid in NY, which I understand because the water distribution area is so large for a much smaller population. Our monthly water bill is usually $25-$30. Your usage may vary.
Taxes: Compared to upstate NY? We are in heaven now.
Shopping: Almost all major chain stores are here, and more coming. You can also travel to Johnson City or Knoxville easily.
Hospitals: See mbmouse's reply. We've not needed one since being here.
Airport: Tri-Cities regional about 20 minutes away. Small airport at Surgoinsville about 10 minutes away.
Weather: Tornadoes really rare. Humidity levels in the daytime, even now during a super heat wave, generally near 40%. It increases often to near 100% just after dawn (fog), then drops again as sun comes up. Snow total last year, under 3 inches. Year before that, 5 inches. Record single snowfall 15 inches, many years ago (in April).
Hope that all helps!
