Smile In need of suggestions in East Tennesse

My husband and I are from CT. and want to move down to East Tennesse. I'm an Engineer/Civil and was wondering about employment in that area. Are their many Civil/Engineering jobs in this area? I currently work for the State of CT. and would like to work for the Governemt like Army Core of Engineers or Federal Highway, are there any Federal Offices in this area?

We would like suggestions on a nice location for me (job wise) and our three children. We do need to be near a Catholic Church. We would like a town/county with decent schools and some private mountain views. My husband is semi-retired bit will be able to build our home here if we can find a lot.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

WE WANT OUT OF CONNECTICUT. The standard of living here is HIGH and the kids here are way too wise for our liking.

Try www.usajobs.opm.gov That will list any open govt jobs, I was looking there last night I don't recall seeing any, but I wasn't looking for that kiind of job.

I'm not sure how many catholic churches you'll find, could google it, but mainly southern baptist. I'm SB, my wife is Catholic, fun times

Good luck

Tony

kasmoriarty, have you visited the tri-cities before? I'm assuming you have, but just curious on why you chose that area. I'm originally from the tri-cities and the bulk of my extended family still lives around there. I grew up in Kingsport. Just letting you know (which you already may) that the area is FAR, FAR different in terms of attitude and culture and overall education than CT. The area is in the heart of the bible belt and is mostly super conservative. Baptists rule in the Tri-Cities area.
The area's geography is absolutely stunning--the mountains, valleys, and hills give way to some of the most beautiful countryside in the US. There are some amazing small towns--architecturally--Rogersville, Jonesboro, and Greenville.
You may want to look @ Knoxville. The Tennessee Valley Authority is headquartered there, and has many positions which your husband might find attractive. The city of Knoxville has about 180k population, and offers much more to do than upper east TN.
Also, if you choose upper east TN, Kingsport has Holston Ordinance works--a US government military ammunitions shelter.

Actually, I live in the Tri-Cities, right in between Kingsport and Johnson City. There is a larger Catholic community than you might think. St.Mary's in Johnson City is not only a huge church (thousands of parishioners), but also has a school, k-12 that is quite large. There is also a large Methodist community here. It is not just Southern Baptist anymore. Are schools are also VERY good. Better I think than some N.E. schools because they are smaller and less likely for a child to get missed or skipped over as far as needs go. Yes, I do know N.E. schools, I am originally from CT.
If I am not mistaken, what you are referring to as Holston Ordnance was called Holston Defense but now and has been for many years now, called B.A.E, or British Aerospace, still works in Ammunitions though, just a name/owner change.
