Thanks again. Looks like the land is at about 3400ft. Snow doesn't worry me too much - originally from Northern Maine. We just fear getting stuck inside for weeks on end. Here in FL we are outside almost every day "working" on something if not at work.

I'm also a former northerner and you're right, the snow itself around here isn't that bad...HOWEVER, remember that you also have to deal with driving in ice and snow down some pretty steep grades to get to the grocery store. That can be pretty intimidating. They keep Highway 19E very well plowed and salted, but the rest of the roads don't get cleaned as well. Roan Mountain really is beautiful, but be sure to think about that ice thing if you come visit before winter.

septic system? red flag. My ex SIL in Richmond Virginia had to pay 15k to repair a faulty septic system....We had looked at land in Stony Creek, and Roan Mtn...nice scenery, but........
