Default Receiving Healthcare

How is a person supposed to get healthcare in this area? None of the primary care physicians are accepting patients that do not have insurance and none of the hospitals will see you unless you have a referral. So what is a person supposed to do about getting healthcare?

I am pretty sure that if you show that you can pay for the treatment out of pocket, they will not turn you away simply because lack of insurance.

If you look up "Needymeds in TN" they have a list all over TN. You should be able to find a clinic in your area or nearby with free or reduced fees. I found a clinic on this one.
There's also a site under "uninsured or underinsured in TN" I didn't checkout this one yet.
Hope this helps you.

Med Care LLC in Johnson City and Elizabethton will accept patients without insurance. They also offer reduced rates for self-pay though you generally have to remind them of the discount or they tend to forget and charge full price. Medical Care, PLLC | Johnson City Doctors | Elizabethton Health Care

There is also a clinic in Johnson City that offers free or low cost care. It used to be geared towards homeless people, but they changed their policy to accept anyone without insurance. From what I understand, opening it up allowed them to get a government grant so they could afford to treat more people. It was also hoped this would be an alternative option for the uninsured that go to the ER for non-emergency treatment. http://www.etsu.edu/nursing/practice...hnsoncity.aspx

I will second Medical Care. Their office is in downtown Johnson City, but they also have a branch over in Elizabethton if you're closer that way.
