Default Flood Areas

Hi everyone,
I have my house on the market here in San Diego and have been watching the internet for a house to buy in the Jonesborough, Telford and Gray areas. One of the listings (it was a for sale by owner) said "not in a flood zone, no flood insurance required". Since I read that I have been trying to find out where these "flood zone" areas are. Can someone help direct me as to how to get this info? Is there a map showing flood zones in the tri-cities area? Is it true that flood insurance is not required in some areas?
Thank you!

It is true that flood insurance is not required for some areas. You may have to dig a bit but you'll probably find what you're looking for using these resources (you may have to create a FIRMette for a particular area; see below):

Flood insurance is generally not an issue in the areas you mentioned. Homes located on the lake areas must have flood insurance if they are below the level of the flood zone (which is different for each lake). In the areas you mentioned, you should be fine.
