Have you talked to any job recruiters? What kind of work do you do? Maybe you in a specialized field? There are tons of medical jobs available. There are lots of jobs in the paper everyday and most companies here hire through employment agencies and don't advertise. Yes, we do have a plant shutting down here, just announced it a few days ago, in J.C, but the last time this kind of announcement was made, another company came in and bought the company that was due to close, it stayed open and it was business as usual.

I'll second that. Perhaps you are seeking positions in specialized fields? There are lots of jobs in the papers, online, and those, as mentioned in the above post, that are not advertised.
I googled the name of the person you spoke with and the name only came up as being with a company in Cumberland County (Crossville/Cookeville area). General Realty (which came up in my search) was for Mountain City, TN and there was no David Devos listed as an agent. Now if you are speaking of Mountain City, there are not very many jobs up that way.

Subscribe to the local newspapers online. When they report a crime story they usually give an address or general community location. Since that address will mean nothing to you as an outsider, take the address in the story and use mapquest to see where it is on a street map. After a few months you'll see where those addresses cluster. Don't move there or near there. This is an especially good method for identifying the drug areas in town.
