Default Transportation to Bristol from Knoxville

I'm in need of a one-way trip from Knoxville to Bristol in mid-May to pick up a car I'm buying. Does anyone know any reasonably priced options? One-way car rental is ridiculously expensive.

I'm in a similar situation. Trying to get from Nashville to Bristol with no car. I'm leaning toward Greyhound to mixed reviews from my family and friends, but I don't see the big deal.

If you were to Greyhound it, would the folks you're buying the car from be willing to pick you up?

There are buses that run through Bristol, but that would add a little more logistics to the plan.

What about taking the Train also. Maybe there is something through Amtrack.

Megabus travels from Nashville to Knoxville but that would put you in the same situation as the OP; needing transportation from Knoxville to to Bristol.

I think I've solved my problem, and maybe this would work for anyone else. A company called Corporate Flight Management runs flights between Nashville and Knoxville 2 days a week (Fridays and Sundays), and it's only $25 each way. It's on a very small 27-seater, but I flew it yesterday (in one that was configured with only about 10 executive seats) and was fine. You can find those flights on socialflights.com. The Enterprise counter at TacAir, the FBO where the flight lands in Nashville, will rent a car to Bristol one way for $40. Or at least that's the price she quoted me.

So that's what I will probably do.

That's pretty sad, it's going to take you six hours or more to get from Knoxville to Bristol. Regional transit in these parts sucks.

I'm not understanding something. You want to go from Knox to Bristol so you are going to fly to Nashville and drive to Bristol?

Try ridesharing on Craigslist.

1. AMTRACK comes nowhere near Bristol.

2. $25 + 60 + 50 (for gas) = $135 before tax. Greyhound (~3hr ride) from Knoxville to Bristol is $30.

3. Just checking, but surely you realize that after you fly from Knoxville to Nashville you'll be driving right back through Knoxville on your way to Bristol. Nashville to Bristol is a 285 mi drive, ~4.5 hrs.

Greyhound is one option, but if there is a problem with meeting the seller, it would be more convenient if you had a rental car.
