Unicoi-On our way!
Hi everyone, I've been reading alot but never posted, I just want to introduce myself. Me and my family are from southern NJ.
Me my hubby, my children, my dad, stepmom and brother are all moving there this weekend. Any information on the area will be very helpful! We are moving to Limetone Cove in Unicoi County. How is Unicoi elementary? I believe that is the school my son will be going to, Is that right? Also what activities are there for my son? Soccer, baseball, karate?

Hello and Welcome to TN!!!
I just wanted to say hello, sorry I really don't know enough about Unicoi schools other than I have not heard many good things about them. Have you checked out the state web site on the schools yet? K-12 Education - TN.gov Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Good luck with the move.

One of my good friends is a guidance counselor at Unicoi County HS in Erwin. If you would like his name, email me. I know you don't have a high schooler yet, but my friend might be a good contact person for you.
It's a beautiful area, and I'm real sure that a good student will get a good education there, as well as anywhere.
Even at the top rated schools, some students do not get an education because they aren't willing to learn.
I truly believe that a child's education reflects what they make of the resources available to them.

i would say cook what you know...have a smaller menu of food prepared well. we have lived from north (mass.) to south (florida) and go out of our way to try new restaurants everywhere we go.
there's to much "just food" these days as more and more mom and pop restaurants switch over from homemade food to sysco frozen products. what's the point of being like everybody else?
for example, i stopped off at a new hot dog place in piney flats (a small area between johnson city and bristol..about 20 minutes from unicoi). they served basic hotdogs and didn't offer a natural casing (difficult to find natural casing dogs in this market). No problem...ordered a couple of dogs with their "house" chili.
While waiting for my dogs, I asked if they cut their own fries..nope. batter your own onion rings..nope. is anything other then the chili actually made here?
see, they are no different then the fast food joint 15 feet away from their store. if they just cut their own fries that would make them different...but I guess it's a bother. then people wonder why their restaurant concept didn't work out.
you don't have to have the biggest menu. but make something fresh and your product will shine. people will come back. word will get out.
the wife and i drove 7 hours one morning last month to get a good steak from a highly recommended restaurant..and got their in time for lunch.
today, i drove over to kingsport to try a new restaurant (i was their very first take out order!). good food. fresh. prepared on premises. they will do well.
that's probably far more info then you were hoping for heh? ;-)
good luck...we'll stop in after you;ve had some time to get your feet settled.

Jay, have you been to Nanny's on 91N (one mile north of the 19E/91N intersection headed toward Elizabethton) - it's WONDERFUL ! Good home cooking / country cooking food.
NJ - I'll try to stop by your place sometime, too. I agree with everything Jay said up there.
