Down Town Johnson City Pics!
Hi all, We were in down town Jonson City this weekend and you know me! I had the camera at the ready hahahahha. It was kind of a gray, rainny day, but will still give you an idea of Johnson City. Johnson City has two main "commercial" areas, one which is the "old down town", (the tall obviously older buildings) which has gone through a lot of revitilization in the past 10 years or so, only a few empty buildings. The other part is the "new" area which is Raon street and State of Franklin road which has the Lowes, Home Depote, Ross, Michales, Old Navy, Super Wal-Mart and K-mart, office supply stores, Best Buy, Circut Ciuty, The Johnson City Mall, Target, lots of resturants etc. Enjoy!

And here are a few Fall pictures from around the same streets!

I think you should do a picture book for potential new ET residents.
You know, this City Data website lets you upload photos permanently to each city. Instead of letting them get away when the thread disappears, why not pick your best ones to put on the main page. I see Johnson City has 5 photos up there now but you, and others, have shown us some other places, too. I think they are terrific photos and we all appreciate them.

Is the total lack of traffic representative of most of TN ?
.........WOW......Now I know another reason why I want to retire to Tennessee from New York......For 30 years I have driven into ( and around ) New York City where it took me 2 1/2 hours to drive 32 miles home after work to the suburbs + in Manhattan ( and even some of the other borroughs )..you have to drive around for 1 hour looking for a parking space and then you have to be able to " parallel park " your car in a space where your front & rear bumper is 3 " from the car in front & back of you..... According to these photos; there is little ( if any ) traffic ( at least by comparison to NYC ) and this apparent lack of congestion looks like Heaven to Me !!!

Yes, that is typical of Hwy 26, which is the main Hwy that runs from Asheville North Carolina to Gate City VA. I can drive from Asheville to Gate City in less than 3 hours...that is about a 200 mile stretch! The only places I can say I have had an "issue" with traffic or a regular basis, (not a hold up for accident or anything like that) is Knoxville and Nashville. Every other hwy I have driven on in TN (mainly east) I have been very impressed with the layout and lack of traffic back ups.
I am from CT originally and have spent time in NYC......would not even think of driving in it! hahahahhha Lived in S. Fl, survived 95 from West Palm to Miaimi... I have driven in Down towns Atlanta and Chicago so I DO know traffic! East TN is heaven in comparison! hahahhhaha

Best way to fly from NY to Greeneville ?
.......Speaking of Traffic...Air Traffic, that is, .....I would like to visit Greeneville, TN next year & plan to fly from New York ( JFK )...I understand that there is only a regional airport in Greenevile; so, I was hoping that you could tell me Whether it's better to fly to Knoxville ( which I understand is about 75 miles from Greeneville ) ??....or fly to Bristol TN ( which I think is about 30 miles from Greeneville ) ???.....or fly to Ashville, NC ( which I understand is only about 10-15 miles from Greeneville ) ????

Knoxville, I have always found it to be cheaper. It is a longer drive, but that will give you opportunity to see more of the region too!
