Ah, that's right. I was thinking about the one in Rogersville. What happened to the Wal Mart's original location on Stone Drive and I-181 (now I-26)? Did that turn into anything?

No, that is just an old dead shopping center. The old Walmart, Food Lion, and other things that were in that shopping center are long gone. The center is now just vacant. The buildings were just boarded up and essentially left to stand and detoriate. Something really needs to be done with that lot, it's an eye sore.

See, that's a total shame. That's the overall problem with "big box" stores and huge shopping centers with gigantic paved parking lots. The developers/owners of these centers plow through the land, trees, and greenery to make way for these huge ugly-ass, lacking in architectural-value centers that eventually go out of business and sit like this one and become total landscape eyesores. It's really disgusting and kinda irresponsible.
A good solution would be to turn these vacant centers into community or government facilities. The developers should donate them. Or better yet, just demolish them and give the land back to nature.

Luckily though in time most of the old shopping centers are rebuilt or used for something else. Look at the old Kingsport Mall, that lot set dead for years before it became East Stone Commons. Which is a pretty nice shopping center now and definately looks a lot better than the old Kingsport Mall ever did.

Kingsport Pavilion Update

Current and future store openings:
Dress Barn is now open.
Books-A-Million is now open.
Lane Bryant will be in the shopping center, next to Maurices.

Rumors found out to be untrue:
Bed Bath & Beyond will not be at Kingsport Pavilion. So far from what I have heard Bed Bath & Beyond have no current plans for coming to Kingsport.

I drove by the new Kingsport Pavilion for the first time yesterday then again today (had to go by it for another reason) and all I can say is ...WOW!!!!! It looks so nice. There were a bunch of cars in the parking lot so I guess folks really like the stores there. I know my Dad will be thrilled to not have to drive to JC to go to Dicks sporting goods now.

Kingsport is thinking ahead with the new shopping development. Perhaps they are guessing that within the next several years the area will become more populated. I for one am really anxious to visit the area this summer to see if the tri-cities area is all that I think & hope it is, since we are considering a retirement move there in less then three years. Kingsport is one the least expensive cities to live in & may be one of those best kept secrets...at least that's what I hear.
