Is what I heard today true, that new grad new hires are going to start at $17 hr vice the current $18 hr? I would not doubt that it's true as a cost saving tactic, especially after they laid off all of those long term employees last year.

Well any who, let me know what you hear.

Thanks

If they can cut the new hire rate and still get new graduates to accept that rate, they have the right to do that. They wouldn't do it if they were not able to get a workforce at that wage. Same issue with the non smoking hiring policy, they must have plenty of applicants that they can be so selective.

Not true. I did hear from a very reliable source that Wellmont is in financial trouble and is looking for financial help.

Part supply and demand (too many nurses being pumped out by too many nursing programs here and nationwide), and part monopoly on the JC area by MSHA that has managed to keep Wellmont out of the immediate area.

I hope that's true, but I heard this about the pay cut today from an employee, it could just be the rumor mill I suppose.

Thanks

There is a program in place at MSHA that while you are in your probationary period and learning the job you are at 5% less pay. Once you pass the intro period your pay goes up 5% to your regular rate. This is for all jobs, not just RN's.

OK, that makes sense as far as her numbers go, 5% of $18 is .90 cents, fairly close to a $1. Mystery solved.

Thanks again.
