Show your support for Costco coming to Kingsport!
As many of you have heard Costco at one point in time showed some interest in opening a store in Kingsport, TN. However Costco for whatever reason seems to have lost interest in building a location in this area. I as many others on here I'm sure would love to see a Costco built here. Kingsport no longer has a warehouse club and I think many of us like myself are sick of supporting Wal-Mart owned companies. It would be nice if we had another warehouse club of sorts in this area other than Sam's Club!
So show your support and interest for Costco coming to this area, send them an email or write the company and tell them you want a store in Kingsport! It's very possible that if Costco sees enough interest for a location in this area they may reconsider building a location here. Even if they don't, an email or simple letter to the company wouldn't take that much time and it can't hurt.

Where would it be built in Kingsport? If it came, it'd be great to see it go in downtown. Unfortunately what will most likely happen is a huge tract of open land will have all the trees uprooted and the land will be paved over and then in comes the big box store. They should place it where the old Wal Mart was on I-26 and Stone Drive.

This is the only document I have found on the internet about CostCo coming to Kingsport. Below is text taken from a business meeting in Kingsport on November 21, 2006.
Quote:
Mr. Don Thompson of 5733 Chestnut Hills Drive, Kingsport, requested that the BMA consider contacting Costco to locate in Kingsport as Sam’s Club moves. Mr. Thompson moved to the area about a year and a half ago from Southern California and informed the BMA that Costco.com offers a lot of information about the company, including that it is currently the fifth largest retailer in the country and treat employees and customers very well. Mr. Thompson complimented the BMA on the retail growth on Eastman Drive and believes a Costco would have a larger customer draw from all over the region.
Mayor Phillips replied that there has been contact with Costco and would also like to see the business locate in the Kingsport area. City Manager Campbell added that the City has also been working on attracting a BJ’s Wholesale Club to the area.

The old Walmart building would be a great idea for a wholesale type club. I imagine it would get a lot of business from Church Hill/Rogersville and even Virginia, in addition to Kingsport.

I would love to see a Costco anywhere in the Tri-Cities. They have a good selection, good prices and unlike Sam's Club, they pay their employees well and give them good benefits. A win-win for everyone!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. At least put that vacant, massive storefront to use.
