Hi,
I will be heading up to the Tri-Cities area mid Dec. Currently I reside and practice law in south florida and will be looking to open an office in the Tri-Cities area. My practice consists of Criminal Defense and Personal Injury. Any suggestions that can be made as to the geographical areas where I should look at opening an office would be appreciated. |

My cousin is an attorney in the Tri Cities. He is originally from this area but did live in Florida for a number of years where he worked as a professional golfer. The Tri Cities law firms are very old boy network in many respects. I don't know if you are a member of the bar in Virginia or not but that would be something for you to check into. Both my cousin, and my uncle that is an attorney in southwest Virginia, are able to practice in both states and being so close to state lines it is very helpful. Folks here will travel in the area to a service if they believe in the product. So, if you are going to go solo I think you could pretty much set up practice wherever you want. Of course, if you are looking to be close to physician offices and Level 1 Trauma Centers then you would want to look at Johnson City and Kingsport or areas in between. Good luck to you and sorry I couldn't be of more specific help. |

I want to say it is Greeneville for the local state courthouse (I am probably not saying that correctly) but I am not really sure. I will have to check into it. I confess that I am just not into the legal scene, unless you want to count my passion for Boston Legal on tv
. When I have been deposed it has been at my office or in an attorneys office and the only courts I have had to go to were here in Knoxville. The University of Tennessee has a law school and there is bound to be info around on all of that stuff. I don't recall any attorneys regularly posting on here. Perhaps your posts will spur some to come out of the woodwork to post. <hint to you lurkers! > |

Just a reminder. I believe court for Wash. County is currently being held both in Johnson City and Jonesborough. With the new justice center being built in Jonesborough, they are moving all of the court activities to Jonesborough instead of having two locations.

Most all of the law offices in Johnson City are located downtown in older houses. (15 minutes from downtown JC, less when there is no or little traffic. |

Thanks, i will have to take a look at the Jonesborough area while there as well as take a drive through Johnson City downtown and see the offices there. I appreciate the direct emails that I have gotten, I probably will expand the search into the Knoxville area as some have suggested.

I previously worked for a PI attorney in Johnson City. The majority or our cases were probably filed in Washington County (they are heard in both Jonesborough and Johnson City). We also worked all of the surrounding counties... Sullivan, Carter, Unicoi, Greene, etc. The federal courthouse is in Greeneville. It definitely is a good old boy area. I worked in Johnson City and then moved to the metro Atlanta area. Talk about culture shock. Once I became accustomed to the way things are done in the "big city", we moved back to JC and it was culture shock all over again.

The ones in Bristol is @ the Sullivan Co. courthouse in Blountville, TN, off of I-81 and the one in the city of Bristol is in downtown Bristol @ the courthouse.

So... did you make the move? I am an attorney in Memphis TN, thinking of moving to the area as well. Would love to hear your reasons for the move and how it turned out. |
