At least, most everyone I've met seems very friendly. Anyway, Merry Christmas and it's great to be here. If you were offended by something I said, I apologize.

I think it is a misnomer that EVERYONE moving here is from Fl. Actually in a 3 month span this year more people moved here from VA than FL. There are also people moving out of here from other places. It's not like we are having some kind of mass influx. There are also a lot of people who moved from elsewhere to FL without a choice and didn't like it at all there and moved out as soon as they could (like me for one). I also thing it is very wrong to assume because FL is having major issues such as high crime that just because someone moves from there that they are criminals. I am not a criminal and I believe I am a good person and treat others with respect. Most people I know who have moved here move here with the intent of acclimating happily with the way of life here. Here are the stats I referred to about where folks are moving here from and mind you this is only Kingsport, not all of the Tri-Cities.
Merry Christmas!

Quarterly Report
July 2007 -- September 2007

During the past 3 months there were 538 new households in Kingsport. (Also, 387 existing Kingsport area households moved to a new location within the Kingsport area.)

Of the 538 new households:

· 217 were new construction
· 321 moved into existing structures

· 159 were relocations from elsewhere in Northeast Tennessee (within 35 miles, but excluding Kingsport area zip codes).
· 35 were relocations from elsewhere in Tennessee (beyond 35 miles)

· 26 were relocations from Southwest Virginia (within 35 miles of Kingsport)
· 5 were relocations from elsewhere in Virginia (beyond 35 miles)

· 96 were relocations from out-of-state (see detailed listing below)

· 52% chose to live inside the city limits of Kingsport
· 39% of new construction was inside city limits of Kingsport

Where did these out-of-state relocations originate? From 27 different states!

c.shultz obviously hasn't spent much time in TN. They are friendlier than the people I have meet in FL. I'm looking forward to a change of heart. TN people are considerate, respectful. Not like most of FL people are disrespectful and inconsiderate. Take another look around and visit TN.

Default it's nice to be honest with eachother

Well, I'm born and raised in TN so I think I've spent many years here. Listen, I totally understand how everyone wants that little hometown, close knit community feeling... I've had it all my life and it will forever be something I've cherished. However, in my opinion, with as many new people that are coming in that feeling will get lost rather quickly. So I hope you can understand where I'm also coming from. Another thing that I realllllllllllly dislike is the attitude that most out of staters show to the people here. Country folk were here long before anyone started showing an interest in this area. Oh and statistics, those are all well and good but get out into the community honey and see where people are coming from

If it was me you were referring to with the "honey", I AM out and about in the community and the people I see moving here from elsewhere are very considerate and respectful of the locals.

If you don't mind my asking, what town/community do you live in and what do you mean by the "attitude" shown toward locals by out-of-staters?

Frankly, I don't give a flyin' flip where anyone's from as long as they're good, kind-hearted folks. I'd much rather be surrounded by good people, regardless of their roots, than live next to hostile "local yokels." I also grew up in NE Tenn. (Kingsport) and while a great many people in this area are wonderful, salt-of-the-earth types, I've known quite a few natives that I'd like to ship far, far away from Tennessee.

Thanks..... On rental I was thinking on the same line, some 1-2 bed room mobile nothing special heat & A/C No frills and rent on a 6 mo. base. Then reality sets in on "What If". They trash the place and what insurance would I need too cover myself. or just buy and have a place too go too ASAP.

There are two campgrounds near the TriCities Airport off I-81. I believe one is a KOA (it was a few years ago when we stayed there) and the other is private. My inlaws stayed a few months in the private campground while relocating here from Florida. If you need the name, let me know and I'll check it out for you.

I'm originally from KY. There are very nice people there. It was really a culture shock for me to live here near Miami (job related). I can't say what FL people are like who live outside this area, but I really can't believe people can be so RUDE. It can really wear on a person to deal with that day after day. I find myself following in there footsteps and I hate that. My husband is worse. Hopefully the attitude of the people in TN will rub off on the FL people who move to TN and they won't corrupted TN. I think if you live around nice people it can change your bad attitude. My opionion. I'm ready to get out of South FL

My personal opinion is to NOT by a mobile. My mother bought one and I lived in one for a few years with her so I'm not knocking on people who live in them. With that said, they are not a good investment. If you have the ability to buy a stick built home, I would suggest you go that route. Mobile homes tend to DEpreciate whereas a stick built home will APpreciate. Mobile's also have a stigma on them. I know that I've heard from alot of buyers that they would not want to purchase one and do not want to live near them either. Plus, from my experience in living in one, they aren't the greatest. I remember being able to hear everything going on in the house even with my door shut. The walls inside are just so thin, it's like they're made of cardboard. And ours was a brand new double wide so age had nothing to do with it.
