jjbradleynyc,
I have to comment as a Christian Baptist from NY. We are unhappy here in NY that we are persecuted by people such as yourself who are so bigoted against our beliefs. As a Christian I believe God's Word to be truthful so believing this I have no choice then to believe that homosexuality is abomination unto the Lord. I certainly would never persecute or ridicule a homosexual because I also believe in hating the sin but loving the sinner. Its my opinion that your post sounds to me to be insulting, judgemental and bigoted against Christian Baptists such as myself. Why do you think it is OK for you to call us names and ridicule our beliefs?
On a side note, I would like to thank Mbmouse, smokymtngal, and williboy for all their posts, I have been on this board for the past couple of weeks looking for the perfect town for us and all of your posts have been very informative. Thanks!

Hmmmm, just curious.... did you poll every person who looked twice at a gay couple to see if they were Baptist or is this just a broad judgemental bigotted attitude toward Christians on your part?? I believe that you would find that while they may not approve of the lifestyle, most Christians would treat a gay individual with love and respect - as they should with any person. I have relatives and close friends who are gay and love them unconditionally as I do my straight relatives/friends.

Eddy, while it's probably true that there are some (and I do mean a few) Baptists who are willing to tolerate our existence, you can't deny that the vast majority of Baptists in the United States wish to convert (ie brainwash), export or simply will out of existence gay people. However, I agree that it is wrong to say that Baptists as whole have any feelings of ill will towards us.
Your language, though, appears to convey sense of shock and awe, as though you can't believe someone would be bitter towards your denomination. I think you need a reality check. You belong to one of the sects of organized religion most responsible for the vast social injustice present in the US today, and through its evangelical branches, it's happily spreading that message of intolerance and "inherent wrongness" to the rest of the world, too.

Well, he said Baptists, not Christians. And he didn't say only Baptists act in this manner. So I think you've overreacted to his post.
But I do want to thank you for the last sentences. In this day and age, that really means a lot. Especially here in the South.

I was joking around earlier about Winged Deer Park and would like to apologize for the post. It was lousy humor done in extremely poor taste. Again, I apologize to all that I offended.

Well, I chuckled at it, anyway, so I guess I should, too. The truth is that anyone with loose enough morals to schlep around looking for sex in a public park is weird, and the situation really was sort of humorous!

You are correct, he did not say only Baptists, but he obviously singled them out for a reason. I don't think that I overreacted. I was trying to point out that he was basically doing the same thing that he accused the Baptists of doing.... judging others.

I don't wish to drag the issue out but a couple of things I feel unfinished with. First, I find your comment regarding that I need a reality check, misleading, I do know people have problems with Baptists and any Christian who stands up for what they believe in. If you re-read my post I state that we wish to leave NY because we ARE persecuted by people such as yourself.
Secondly, you make this statement:
The truth is that anyone with loose enough morals to schlep around looking for sex in a public park is weird, and the situation really was sort of humorous![/quote]
Who are you to judge? While I completely agree with this statement, aren't you being judgmental? Your simply drawing your line in the sand further? Bottom line is, we are ALL judgmental, you and other homosexual's are judgmental against my beliefs and probably me personally and I am judgmental on your choice of lifestyle based on the teachings of the Bible but I would never ridicule or mock you.

Ok folks. This is getting off topic and a bit too argumentative. Sorry but I believe it is time to close this thread and move of to a new subject.
