Info on "Church Hill"
Hi guys, my family and I will most likely be moving to the Kingsport area. Anything positive and or negative about Church Hill would be greatly appreciated. Example, safety, schools, family oriented, weather(snow) etc. We have children in elementary school. We are very excited about relocating to your beautiful state!
I so enjoy this board and have gotten alot of valuable information from it.
Thanks so much!

I live in Bristol, but I love Church Hill... especially the stretch along 11W.

I agree, very pretty area. Seems like a nice bunch of folks that live there. It is only 10 minutes out of Kingsport, but VERY rural feel. Few stores and local restaurants, a great antique store, a bank or two. Schools are Hawkins Co...there OK I guess, I personally don't know a whole bunch about them but I do know some parents that seem happy with them.
Sorry, I don't have too many pictures of the Church Hill area and the few I do have were taken on a cloudy day, but here they are.

I like the large stands of Loblolly pines along the stretch of 11W down there. Seems like there are more in that area than anywhere in NE TN. I also like that old mansion to the right side of the road (heading west)... all it needs it some huge Live Oaks on the front lawn...

I used to live in Rotherwood Estates which is in Kingsport City but also in Hawkins County. I was a George Washington Elementary parent. Until the Rotherwood bridge situation is fixed once and for all, I would never move back to Rotherwood Estates.
Church Hill is a rural area in Hawkins County. Hawkins County schools are "ok". They are out of school a lot in inclement weather due to the buses not being able to make their routes in the more rural parts. I would choose Kingsport City Schools as first, Sullivan County as second and Hawkins County as third choice for my children.

I lived in Church Hill for 2 years.
I would not recommend the schools. The other poster is right, Hawkins county is out a lot for snow days. I have heard through the grapevine that the schools in Hawkins Co. are not so great.
Food City was the grocery store I always went to and there was also a Food Lion. There is a McDonalds.
I didn't like living in Church Hill because it was sorta far away from Kingsport...(the mall, the shopping, the nicer restaurants).
There is like 1 family style sit down restaurant in Church Hill and it's called The Mountaineer. Country cooking. We got sick of that place pretty quick not that the food is terrible or anything but we just tired of only having that one place to eat a family style meal.
At least there is a Wal Mart that is closer to Church Hill now on Stone Drive / 11W. Mt. Carmel/Allandale area has Ben Franklin, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Burger King, etc.
The one thing I did like was that there were 2 parks for my kids to play at . One is behind Food City and one where you turn off at Mountaineer onto the 2 lane and go under the railroad bridge. There is also a community pool.

Thanks so much for your responses. I think we are leaning towards Kingsport now.

I think that The Mountaineer was a bit overrated. I did, however, love love love their Strawberry Shortcake!
