Default red light cameras

Anyone have any experience with the red light cameras used in Kingsport?

A co-worker of my husbands did. He received in the mail a few nice clear still photo's of him under the light when it was red, his tag number and a link to the site where he could watch himself actually going through the red light along with a ticket.

Default Yes.

I drive through one every day in Colonial Heights. My aunt has got 2 tickets from it.

I have seen the one on Fort Henry and the one on Stone take pictures of cars speeding through. (saw the flash go off at night).

One of my friends also received a nice clear picture of her running one in Kingsport on East Stone Drive. Not that you should ever run a red light but definately do not run a light in Kingsport that has one of these camera's, you will be caught!

Oh my gosh. I will know now to be even more careful when in the Kingsport area.

I think we have a couple of those now at some traffic signals in Bristol, VA.

It might be of interest to some the fine in Kingsport is $50 just like Knoxville which is shared with Red-flex but Kingsport also adds another $50 as court costs so the cost to a driver is $100. Kingsport keeps all of the court cost.

In the first seven months of FY 08 they have collected about $950,000 of which about $300,000 went to Red-flex and $650,000 went to the city. The program may or may not be enhancing safety but it certainly has increased the city"s revenue. Does this bother anyone but me? Where are the other 9500 people who have been fined? Why is this the only obligation to the city I can automatically pay on the web from the city's web page? Why can't I pay my water bill or property taxes?

Default How do you know which red lights have cameras?

Do they blink in a weird way? I noticed a few on Stone Drive/Eastman area that blink like a strobe light around the edges of the red circle. Does that mean they have cameras?

If not is there a way to tell?

Don't think so. When I lived in Knoxville, I noticed those lights, too. I think they're just an alert, of sorts. "Hey! I'm red! Stop!" The ones w/ cameras, you can see them sitting around the intersection. They're huge things.
