Default Houses for rent

Hi everyone. I posted awhile back about wanting to come "home", looking for rental information. I did get some good tips, but haven't found anything yet. I'm planning to come over for a few days over Easter. I know some of you mentioned that a lot of people just tend to put "For Rent" signs up as opposed to posting online, etc. Can you suggest any areas to just drive around and look? Have you seen signs as you're out and around? My main focus is the Kingsport area, but I'm open to anything within about 20 miles or so. I'd really like something "out" a bit, with a large yard and fence (I have a dog). Any suggestions / advice would be appreciated.

I've looked at Craigslist, below is an example, only of the March ads. I've looked at and called on houses in the newspaper. My sister has gone to look at some and sent pictures. There is a real estate website that posts rentals that I look at regularly. I thought there may be people here that might possibly see rent signs as they're driving to or from work, shopping, etc. Just wanted an idea if there seemed to be any particular area that had signs on nice rental homes so when I DO go driving around, I'd have an idea of a destination in mind. You know, maybe something like "I live in Hot Air Hills and have seen a few houses with signs. It's a nice area, large yards and privacy. " Thanks anyway.

Looking at what you posted from Craig's List, there is a wide variety of things you would consider. Are you looking for house, mobilehome, townhouse, etc? I see for rent signs alot as I'm driving around and would be happy to send you the info when I see one.

Driving around looking for "For Rent" signs seems to be an amazing waste of time given the available resources today.

But, if you must, I would look in neighborhoods around the university...ALWAYS for rent signs over in that area.

Not to beat a dead craigslist, but have you considered PLACING an ad there and describing your perfect situation to see if somebody is checking craigslist for renters?

Hi. No, I need a house. I have a fairly large dog (70 pounds) and would like for him to have a nice fenced yard to run and play in. I would like a "nice" house, but the house is, actually secondary to the yard and location. You don't need to go to trouble like writing phone numbers, etc.. but if you remember the area, maybe neighborhood, or street, I could drive out that way. Thank you.

I agree that just driving around looking for "For Rent" signs could be an amazing waste of time. However, in my earlier thread, it was mentioned as something I may need to do, as people in the area tend to put up signs rather than post on the internet or place ads. The university is a good idea, I'm just not sure as a 50 year old woman it would be my first choice. It is a good thought, though, and worth checking out. Regarding Craigslist - no, I had not considered placing an ad there. I don't have a "perfect" situation. However, I don't want to live in one of those subdivisions with tiny yards and houses crammed in on top of each other, and I would like a reasonably nice house.

That's the beauty of craigslist. The ad is free and you have as many words as you want to explain your likes and dis-likes. You can use a craigslist email address so your email is hidden, allowing you to respond to only those that are of interest to you.

You could take a simple list of what you have posted in this thread and write an ad that should get some response.

BTW, the availability of different housing types (and diverse mix of people of all ages, ethnicity, etc) is unique, imo, in the university area. Being 50 just puts you in the middle of the mix.

Well, see, I had preconceived notions that near the university would be mostly college kids wanting to party and all. I didn't realize it was so diverse. Thank you.

If you're talking about ETSU (a good distance from Kingsport and Bristol), then, yeah, housing within 5 minutes of there is quite diverse. I am an ex-college kid (dropout ) on Seminole Drive, but I actually only have one student neighbor; the rest are middle-aged families.
