Unicoi
I was wondering if Unicoi is a small town? Does it have a main street and stores to go shopping (grocery, drug). There is not much info on Unicoi I was wondering if anybody had anything positive or negative to say. Thanks in advance.

Unicoi is really the county; the town in Unicoi is Erwin. It's a very small town with a picturesque downtown (Main St.) and the huge Apple Festival which draws in tens of thousands of people. I don't know all that much about the retail except I know there's a Wal-Mart (right by I-26).

There is also a town of Unicoi between Johnson City and Erwin. Not much to the town but a pretty area. I've attached a link to their webpage.

I've driven by Unicoi's "business district" a couple of times, and I don't recall seeing any retail establishments but I'm sure they have some small ones. It really is a blink-and-you-miss-it kinda place. I'm pretty sure there's no grocery store there, but there are some fairly close in both Erwin & Johnson City. Unicoi's 7 miles from downtown Erwin, 10 miles from downtown JC and 52 miles from downtown Asheville, NC...great location, IMO. |
