However, I’m a bit concerned nonetheless, because the overall crime rates seem high.

The house that I am looking at is on the west side of Elizabethton, not far from the Johnson City city limits. Zip code is 37643. I’m from out of state, and have not seen the property (or the area) in person yet. But I did a video tour with the realtor.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

Jason
I would not be that concerned about random crime in Elizabethton. Yes, there are drugs and crimes associated with that, but random crime is basically nil, and the crime is contained among people who generally know each other.

Thank you, I appreciate your response. The area itself looks rather pleasant and “sleepy”, at least from pictures, and that’s right up my alley. It’s just me and my sweet dog, so I don’t have a wife or kids about which to consider. So as long as a place is relatively quiet, peaceful, and safe, then I’m all in. I don’t care about schools or nightlife attractions or major shopping venues all that much.

I also found a house in Rogersville that I like better than anything else that I have seen thus far, but it’s a bit more isolated from the Tri-Cities area.

I just moved to Gray 2 months ago and we were also in between Elizabethton and Gray. Finally visited Elizabethton and it is a pretty area. Gray is nice too. Like the others said, Gray is more of the suburban area. Much quieter and calmer than Elizabethton. Elizabethton is very busy and has a lot more than Gray. In Gray, we do have the grocery store, liquor store, walgreens/cvs, and your fast food restaurants. If I need to go to walmart or the mall. Then I head to JC for it. Drive is anywhere between 10-25 minutes depending on where you're going.
