summer heat
hello all..
This weekend I am coming down to the area. I am curious about the summer heat. Is the humidity as bad as some people say? Are there any others from up North that had moved to tennessee that could compare the summers?

Just about everybody from what I can tell.
Humidity here is not bad at all any time of year. Summer temps are fairly mild with a nice breeze blowing most if the time making it feel a little cooler then the actual temp.

bbbbrrrrrrrr
But going to be 29 tonight!!!!
However, should be warmer this weekend even though calling for rain Friday and Saturday. There is a saying here that is very appropriate: " If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes, it will change".
I am originally from CT then spent many years in FL, in comparing, the humidity here is VERY bearable over all. Yes, there are a few days, sometimes weeks, that it is humid, but not 24 hours at a time like FL and doesn't usually last.
It is going to be a personal preference issue, no one but you is going to be able to determine if the levels are comfortable to you.
Not sure if that helped any or just confused you more LOL! Sorry.

I'm originally from Louisiana and I can tell you for a fact that the humidity in Tennessee not near as bad as it is in Louisiana or other southern states closer to the Gulf of Mexico. We visited Tennessee during a very hot period of time last August and did not find the humidity to be that bad.

Most Tennesseans and other mid Southerners won't find the humidity all that bad, and like jguillot said, Gulf Coast Southerners wouldn't probably break a sweat . Then too I have friends that live in Canada that seem to get the same weather we do! So you're really just going to have to experience it yourself and see. It is nowhere near as overwhelming as Florida/LA/MS heat that can best be described as "wall of shimmering hell".

Yeah, thats what they said, but it only got down to 33° and 35° at my house during those coldest nights.
It has already been in the mid 80s here twice this month.
Summers compared to the deep south (and Florida) are much more bearable, but it does get quite humid in the summer- typical southeastern summers. The mountains help keep the temps down a little though. Some of those that say its "cool" must not have been here last summer, when the average August high was like in the mid 90s. The high at my house hit over 100° for five days. I guess its really what you are used to. If you are from Florida or the Gulf coast, then you will likely think this area is cool and lowly humid. If you are from the deserts or the northeast, then you may find it quite hot and humid.
If its any guide, average summertime dewpoints in the metro area run in the upper 60s to lower 70s range. Anything 70° and above in the dewpoints is considered a "tropical" feel.
Summer 2007 was a scorcher here in east TN.

And here is a good example for the OP. You live in Bristol, I live in Gray which is what?.......20 miles as the crow flies maybe? We got down to 27 and I had a couple of plants freeze even though I covered them.
Erwin has different temps than Kingsport by a few degrees. It can rain in Kingsport and be dry in Johnson City. Rogersville can be 5 degrees cooler than Johnson City.
Yes, I agree, 2007 was HOT, dry and not so good. I have know a few summers that never hit 90 too. You just never know I guess.
