We moved up from FL in sept. 2007. We had no problem finding a doctor; I called a physician referral service and they sent us to a doc with Blue Ridge Physicians Association. Our doc has since had to refer me to an orthopedic doc to fix a knee and thumb problem and all has gone well. I'm sorry to hear these horror stories. I sure hope things work out for everyone.

Question Questionable Healthcare ?

We brought him to emergancy room three times because he had heavy congestion in his throat, they treated him twice for pneumonia and once for allergies, and never took an x-ray. When he visited my sister in Fort Worth, Texas, she took him to the emergancy room and they diagnosed him with advanced terminal lung cancer. I do not understand how the medical facilities in this area are getting the high ratings; my experience so far has been very disheartening.

My wife & I are seeking to retire to N/E Tn within the next 18 months.
I have found that there is no guarantee of good healthcare anywhere.
In December, 2006 I underwent routine Surgery at a NYC Hospital which is rated as the Best Hospital in America. 7 days after the Surgery, I became paralyzed from the waist down. I have since undergone 2 back surgeries & now have very limited ambulation with a walker.I also have a profoundly handicapped adult step-son who lives with my wife & I.
As such, our medical needs are extensive but I was under the impression that my United Healthcare ( Empire Plan BCBS ) Insurance + Medicare ( which I will receive in 3/09 ) would assure me of good coverage for, what I was led to believe, was good healthcare available in Kingsport & Johnson City .

Was I wrong about healthcare & insurance in Kingsport & Johnson City ?

Am I going from the frying pan ( Long Island,NY ) to the fire ( Kingsport or Johnson City ) ?
