We just ate lunch there today - me for the first time although my husband has been there several times and enjoyed it.
Chew Chew's is located right on Buffalo Street (downtown loop),just before you make the right onto E Main Street where Freiberg's sits on the corner. Good parking on Buffalo adjacent to Spring Street Park.
I snagged a menu that includes sandwiches ($4.25), hoagies, soups and salads including anti pasto and greek. They also have 'Signature Sandwiches' which include smoked turkey and cheddar, a deli club, rueben, etc. - all of those for $5.25. Most come with good potato salad and a pickle. The place is sparkling clean and cute with red and white tablecloths and a simple but nice decor featuring (obviously) a railroad theme. I would recommend it as an occasional alternative to Freiberg's and Russo's which are a *little* more upscale and a *little* more expensive.
We're downtown a bunch (own a building around the corner) so we're very pleased that they're here! Now we could really use a decent Italian restaurant.
We also just ate at the Brick Oven in Jonesborough near Ingles and loved all the menu choices, the prices and the HUGE portions. Two light eaters could actually get by with one entree.. It's nice for those of us in more isolated Limestone and Telford to have a decent restaurant fairly closeby..

I loved Brick Oven when it only had one location in Greeneville. Just tried the Jonesborough the other day and loved it, too!

If any of you are interested in one of JC's *BEST* websites, filled with history (days of the railroads, etc.) and lots of current, beautiful downtown pictures (plus menus of downtown restaurants) go to johnsonsdepot.com...
It is by far the most interesting and fun sites for those wanting more info on JC!
(It has also won awards)

I will be visiting Johnson City in several weeks. Is there a restaurant downtown that serves breakfast between 7 and 10 am?

Is Frieberg's still open? My husband and I will be in the area next weekend and would like to try it (We like German food, but have no German restaurants in our area).

The last time I checked, no!
It's always surprised me that someone wouldn't do breakfast -- or at least offer coffee and donuts. Downtown used to have a couple of breakfast places and with all the attorneys and business folk there it would make sense!
And, yes, Frieberg's is still open and doing well! The food is great and it's one of my husband's favorite places to eat when he's at our office downtown.

Oooooh, I LOVE TASTE BUDZ!!!
How's that for a review? I stop in JUST because their tea is a-mazing. I don't even like tea. Yep, I detest tea, but I drink their tea.
The food is really good, too. Last time I went (about a week and a half ago) I got fried catfish, greens, fried potatoes and onions and a biscuit. I hadn't had food like that since I ate at my mammaw's house!!!
They're super friendly, too. The ONLY thing is that it's a bit expensive (the food I mentioned above is about $10).
