I read your posts all of the time. You are a glass half empty kind of person. Sorry, just this a--hole's opinion. But, I would love to get together with you for a beer sometime because I think you may be exactly the kind of person who could be this area's biggest fan. You seem to know so much about what's going on in the area but I sense a negative vibe in most of your posts.
Maybe you do need to move far away from here. Colorado, California, Iowa, Washington. Just a guess, but maybe after you live somewhere like that......northeast TN may not seem so bad. I lived most of my life in MD and WVA and I can tell you, as far as personal freedoms, to do what you wish to do and as far as taxes and government permits to cut down a tree or burn some leaves...well...your already livin' in the land of the free.
But maybe I've been reading too much into your posts. Best o' luck to ya' Bro.

I don't even know what to say. Your post sort of cut me to the quick, and that's very hard to do... I had no idea I came across like that. I assure you, in "real life" I am eternally happy and optimistic sort of person....
I meant no disrespect to the area with my comment about moving on. There are many factors in my personal life that you have no idea about that have influenced and will influence my "life path." And in general, as Sarah alluded to, yes, I figure at one point I will have to move on career-wise.

From where I sit, I've always viewed you as "an eternally happy and optimistic person"! But, realistic and pragmatic also. I think most on this forum see you that way, too..

I actually have to say I had to read your post twice Northernlights, I almost deleted it as a personal attack! But after I read it the second time, I realized you were just conversing in an honest way. Nothing wrong with that and Jab, I don't think you come across as not liking the region, but just honest about how you see it, which is appreciated by everyone.
It is tough sometimes to get the true meaning of a statement on an Internet forum. And in person too, you Jab of all people should know that, think about the common phrase here: "bless your heart" could even be said in a super sweet voice, but you and I both know it could be a major slap in the face, or a very genuine statement.
No one should take anything personal on a Internet forum.

I read the post soon after it was posted and decided to leave it as well after some contemplation. However, I would like to point out that mentioning that someone is half glass empty or full is somewhat off topic for the subject of new restaurants.
I think Jabogitlu has brought invaluable information to this forum (and Knoxville) and I enjoy his honest posts immensely. We all have different styles and I do not think folks posting on the internet come across in different ways to different people.
Speaking of restaurants, I do hope that Northern Lights and jabogitlu will both be able to make the Meet and Greet at Russo's!

Howdy, I've been trying to figure out where "exactly" the german restaurant is, I was stationed i Germany for 2 years in the Army and love good german food/beer.
BTW, Jab is in no way a pessimist, now, on the other hand, I have been known to have a glass half full/empty sort of outlook on here And for those few that have met me, it ain't just online
The world has to have flowers (mbmouse) and stink weed (me) in order know who the flower is
Take care all, hopefully I'll see some of you at the meet and greet.
Tony

I'll deffo see ya'll at the meet and greet! I thought about what NL said while I was at work and now that I'm home, I re-read a few of my latest posts. I have to say I agree with him/her. I would be quick to say that doesn't reflect my personality, but maybe lately it has. I've been having some personal medical problems (nothing life threatening) that have taken their toll especially on the weeks leading up to finals. So I hope that now I'm out for summer I can refocus myself and be much more positive in the future. Always a realist, yes, but also happier about where I live. I will *always* be a NETN champion and I truly love living here. How could I not? My family has lived in the mountains of WNC and NETN for 200 years and this is, in my opinion, the most beautiful part of the country and maybe even North America. It certainly is very unique with regards to both culture and biodiversity.

Whoa, whoa, wait a minute!!!
I certainly meant no personal attack.
Jabog writes so many good reviews and I have found many of his answers quite helpful but maybe it's just the posts I've read of his more recently that seem to add little negative commentary here and there on the area's potential to grow or its lack of progessiveness or "provincial" leadership etc..
I only meant to share my view on how those comments could be interpreted. No place is perfect and being pragmatic means you see things as they are and i prefer that to a PollyAnna.
My apologies if my critique was incorrect or worded too strongly. As i said, maybe I have been reading too much into your posts.
I have some pretty serious worries in my life too right now but I try to look on the bright side in spite of the economic realities we are all in together at this time and I too hope I can continue to stay in this area. I have lived several other places in my life and found them to be just as or much more screwed up than this area. I've found no Utopia anywhere so far but I tried to help improve the things I could in places I lived that I could and look for the bright spots and silver linings. I only meant that Jabog may move away only to find many other places are more oppressive and screwed up than NE TN. For instance, I need a job, other people need jobs, so I have been devoting some of my attention each day to contact people who might relocate their businesses to this region. Good for me, good for everybody if I succeed. I'm trying to be part of the solution.
I really love this area and recently Gary Mabrey the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce had me over to his office and I was surprised all that is being done by folks in the area to make it as good a place as possible, to attract more businesses and help current residents start their own businesses so more folks can find good paying jobs in the area and won't have to relocate
and have plenty of money to spend at local eateries. [There, I worked the post back around to restaurants] Again, sorry if my thoughts offended anyone here. Not my intention. I hope I have headed off any more flames that may come my way over my observation and wish you all well.

Freiberg's location
Tony,
Here's a link and map to the location of Freiberg's German Restaurant.
Again, I had good food and service on "off peak" hours. [Your mileage may vary.]
Freiberg's LLC, Johnson City, TN : Reviews and maps - Yahoo! Local
I also stated in my post the other day I had not found any Indian cuisine. Not true. Sahib over near rte. 26 off of Roan Ave. is very good!!! Coupons are also circulating where you buy one entree, get one at equal or lesser price for free. I hope someday they can open a location downtown and I encourage folks to go try it, especially if it may be new to them. Indian food is, of course noted for it's use of spicy [not necessarily hot, just full flavored] and of course they enjoy a wide variety of breads in their meals. Sahibs menu is very good at explaining every dish and I also enjoyed a very good and very "Un-Indian" Mojito with my meal which while not authentic was a nice compliment.
