We are trying to move to Eastern TN (Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol) to get away from the snow - 185 in. per year - and the high property taxes. Any information about the area would be appreciated.

It is a beautiful area with a low cost of living and low taxes. It is hard not to love it here.

Sorry, I don't really know where to start. What are you looking for? Do you want to know about outdoor activities, homes, schools, jobs etc..? Would you prefer to stay in the cities or the more rual areas?
This is a beautiful area and like williboy said it's hard not to love it. We can help you with what you want to know if you will be a little more specific. Otherwise, we might be giving you information that you don't really need or want. Please let us know what information you want and the answers will start pouring in.

Hi mjlaflamme...Welcome to the forum!!!
So Johnson City is your choice. Great choice...of course I don't think you can go wrong anywhere in NETN. When are you moving? If we can help with anything let us know. There are alot of wonderful people on hear who will be very glad to help.
Are you moving from outside the U.S.? By the way, don't worry about your English. I understood you just fine. Besides...I have serious spelling issues, and everyone on here has been kind enough to not say anything about it.
Keep us posted on your move. And welcome home to Tennessee!!!!

What are you looking for? If you want to be in a town I would suggest Bristol or Johnson City, if you want to be further out and close to alot of outdoor recreational activities I would suggest Mountain City. You are further away from Johnson City, but a short drive to Boone NC. Fishing is great, golf, hiking, biking is wonderful. You are also near Watauga Lake.

Not alot of snow, but more than the Tri-Cities, because its higher in elevation. I think Blowing Rock is only like 35-40 miles away.

Well you will definitely get away from that. We are lucky to get 7-8 inches per year here these days.
