Good job, jab! Yes, I bet we'd all like to see your email! Another thing that might be fun to do is send a link to *this* discussion.. There are loads of great and thoughtful ideas, supportive of where the commission & JCDA are headed..

Sarah, about a year ago I emailed one of the editors of the JC Press and asked him to monitor this forum and its discussions for news opportunities. I'm not sure if he took my advice or not. The fact that people are talking about it and have ideas...that in itself could make an interesting "What people are saying" column.

PW - That, of course is another great idea!
Some years ago when optimism reigned downtown, I (as a former news reporter) suggested to the Press that they do something like that.. Gosh, I was willing to do it for nothing! A kind of 'Man/Woman on the Street' kind of thing. Heck, even the little old Tomahawk in Mtn City was doing it.. Apparently - and unfortunately, there were no takers at the Press. So for a while, about a year, I did a newsletter with everything that *was* happening. It was fun and well-received by DT folks and others, too. With subsequent events - time constraints (and my being gone so much) I had to stop. I think URA is now doing something similiar on-line called 'The Comet'.. The Press does occasionally do business articles on DT - but they seem fewer than a few years ago.. Maybe we should all give them a little shove again??

Default JC Depot as trail head and museum

As the Project Manager for the CC&O Depot it is a pleasure to announce that we are submitting Requests for Proposals for an preservation architect to design and over see the preservation and development of our beloved depot. Linking the rail history with a recreational network that extends to Hampton is a goal worth seeking and we are strong in support of these efforts. JCDA is doing its best to work with city leaders and hoping to garner support from Elizabethton and Carter County in achieving this worthwhile goal.

The first “rails-to-trails” project in East Tennessee gained momentum Thursday (Feb. 2) when the City Commission approved a master plan compiled by Durham, N.C.-based Alta/Greenways that will serve as a guide for the 10-mile pedestrian-friendly path from Johnson City to Elizabethton.

I'm pretty excited! I think this could be a piece of a much bigger project to create something new and exciting in this area.
