That is an awesome idea, I am going to do that in NC when we move there! Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for all of the very helpful input everyone! My hubby is in JC today for a 2nd interview over lunch. I take that to be promissing? Hmmm, we'll see. If it is, I'll be up within the week to start looking around. I have kids in 3rd & 5th so getting them settled will be the priority. Hopefully, God willing, I'll be back to ask more questions...Thanks again, nice to know the neighborly spirit is alive and well out there!

I'm from knoxville - the REAL SCOOP
I think you are getting some good and some real bad information here ..... I am from knoxville and here is what I see...
Around our mall and townacres is alot like west hills
The Ridges - like the McMansions off of northshore or Gettsvue vibe - new money
The Gump is like Sequoyah Hills, Riverbend...older, the best -old money -love it
Tree streets has the same feel but smaller yards - a mish mash of homes a beautiful estate with a dump 3 doors down ....I think it is not the best choice- not as close to eating and shopping .
I hate Boones Creek and Gray it is sooo far from everything you would do. Think of knoxville and boones creek and gray...... is like far out like Foxden without the "stuff" in farragut just far out.
There's like a Food City and Rite Aid out there - NOTHING like west knoxville -
Kingsport gave me a Oak Ridge vibe - it is very different from Johnson City.
I like it here .....it is not knoxville - slower pace ,no traffic and we are about 40 minutes from Asheville - if you miss city life
While I miss eating at Naples and the feel of football season in Knoxville - you will like life here.....

I love the McMansions and the golf course in The Ridges. If I had a spare 500,000 to 1,000,000 dollars to throw down on a new crib, I'd move there tomorrow. As it is, I love being a country squire out in lovely Leesburg Estates in Telford. I guess it's not such a long drive to The Crossings to play golf.

Boones Creek and Gray
I will have to respectively disagree with Boones Creek and Gray being "sooo far" out. I live in Gray, and it takes me only 12 minutes door to door to get to Wal-Mart or another shopping area around the State of Franklin exit. Also, there is much more than just Food City and Rite Aid here. First of all, the Food City is an excellent store...at least in my opinion....great selecion and friendly people there. There is Food City and Whites, Rite Aid and Walgreens....several auto parts places, several gas stations, more fast food restaurants than most people need, plus several other restaurants, one Mexican and one Chinese for sure. Also, most of the sports offered for kids in Johnson City area also available in Gray.
It depends on what you are looking for. We wanted larger lots and a feeling that our neighbors were not looking in our front door all the time. Gray is located very nicely if you want to go to Johnson City or Kingsport.

Don't forget we have two farm and gardens stores and a Poor Richards too! Plus the Fossil museum and Furniture Row.
I too disagree about Gray being too far out, but that is just me. Won't hurt my feelings at all if it doesn't grow anymore.
