New to area (questions about Johnson City) (Jamestown, Allardt: school, university)

I would like to find out information about Johnson City. I have a child that will be attending college at East Tennessee State University. This is the first time he will be away on his own and alone. We are from Miami and there is a very diverse culture here. I would like information about the community and location of the school in regards to departments store and public transportation. any information you can give would be greatly appreciated. i thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!
As far as safety fears compared to Miami, he is going to feel like he is in Mayberry!
There are public buses that run throughout down town, including pick up and drop at campus. Here is the route maps and info about when they run and all that good stuff: Johnson City Transit System
As for department stores, there is Roan Street that is about 2 maybe 3 miles from campus, bus runs to the mall. Here is a link to them which lists all the stores:Welcome to The Mall at Johnson City
Across the street from the mall is strip type mall with Target, T.J. Max, Books-A-Million (or is it Barns and Noble?) Kinkos, and Pier One.
There are many little restaurants/fast food places in and around campus too.

First, i would like to thank you for the information about public transportation and shops. Secondly, i would like to know about allardt, tn. If you have any information to share i would greatly appreciate it. One of my co-workers said they owned property in that city.

Allardt is up near Jamestown, Rugby, etc. The OP probably needs to start a new thread in the main TN forum to inquire about Allardt. It's a nice, small town. We drove through it last year when we were traipsing around that area. Lovely country.
