Kingsport Grocery Co. has reopened...
Saw a very good crowd there when I walked by on my way to a downtown concert Fri. night. I believe downtown Kingsport now offers 23 restaurants, with Stir Fry slated to open sometime this summer.
Located at 453 E. Main St. in downtown Kingsport, the restaurant offers New York-style pizza, gourmet “Beefalo Burgers” and sandwiches, and 55 American and international microbrewery beers. The list includes microbrews not offered in the region before, and the restaurant will be growing those offerings to more than 100 microbrews in a few weeks.
Kingsport Grocery Co. opens for business

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but pizza and beer wasn't it. Anyone else?

You left out the beefalo burgers.
Sounds like a new pickup bar has hit town. Perhaps that was just the editing from the newspaper writer and there will be more substance.

Think city microbrewery/restaurants. You know like the ones all over Boston, Atlanta, NY and so forth. It looks GREAT with the new patio and face lift. I haven't made it there yet, but plan to soon!

Sounds kind of like Barley's. If so, it's def. not a pickup bar.

Same person who started then sold Barley's is one of the new owners of Kingsport Grocery. Same owner as 12 Bones, and the Theater on Broad Street, yea Doug's a busy guy hahahhahha.

You'll have to give us a review when you do.
I was hoping for something like Big River Grille in Chattanooga. We have so many sandwich type places downtown already and I don't like the taste of beer so that's not a draw for me. I am excited about Stir Fry opening soon though!

My dad was on the Kingsport Planning Commission for a number of years and knows the owner of Kpt Grocery. He believes that the new place will be very nice also. I sure hope so. I didn't think that the article placed it in the best light possible.

Those of us in Downtown JC are quite envious of what Kingsport has accomplished in restoring its downtown! I know they're quite a few dedicated community activists and investors who have made the difference (some of them left downtown JC for Kingsport).
Congratulations to the progressive thinkers who have made this happen!
Does downtown Kingsport have an actual small grocery store? That's one thing missing in downtown JC - especially since we have a lot of folks living downtown..

There is a grocery store downtown but some people don't care for it. It isn't a national chain and doesn't seem to be kept as clean as others. However, there are grocery stores just 5 minutes away that are very nice.
