There is no "fresh fish" in the Tri-Cities area. Greene's is anything but fresh. The only thing Riverfront Seafood has to offer is high prices for old fish. This is the worst area for seafood that I have seen. If I can't find good fresh fish then you can guess what they are selling at the local eateries.

Less "Bible-belt" would likely equal more crime. I'll take the "Thumpers". They don't hurt anyone.

You are right. We are a land locked state. However, we have some very good fresh beef, pork and poultry that you can not find in FL, Maine, etc. where you can get fresh seafood. It is just part of living here. If fresh seafood is that important to someone, any land locked state might not be the place to look if considering a move. I don't mean to sound rude, but I would think that would be obvious.

As a Bristolian I love this city. Johnson City and Kingsport have much higher crime rates than we do. I rarely encounter a rude person driving or in a store or anywhere else for that matter. The people here will come at you with the same attitude that comes at them. If you treat them with kindness and respect that is what you get back. In this area I do not consider us backwards but you can get into some areas in the deep county that I am sure you will run across people that still don't have running water. If you want to know what Bristol is like, as a true Nascar fan, they have nothing but love for the people and the experience Bristol offers them when they come here. We welcome anyone in with open arms regardless of race or ethnic background. There are however, a large number of people out there EVERYWHERE that just drive along in the passing lane. That is a gripe and I have seen it in my travels in every state.

Well, I guess being so far from freshwater makes it more difficult for us to have things like that. But, if you want some trout, South Holston Lake is calling your name. There is no lack of good old fishing holes that could supply you with all you want.

Do we? I find that hard to believe. Where'd you get that?

If you drive through Banner Elk, N.C. they have fresh trout; Banner Elk is a popular tourist/ski area.
Other than that, I agree w/ donsabi, except they do seem to have a nice selection at Earthfare, in J.C.
At least Earthfare has healthy foods.

Geez, I'm sorry that we can't keep up with Birmingham, Atlanta, Dallas or St. Louis! I'm sure a lot of us would like it more fresh, but our population isn't big enough to demand it. Um, yeah, you can probably find fresh pork chops or chicken, but that's because we can GROW THOSE HERE.
Jesus.
On a related note, in the Earth Fare orientation, they told us that fresh seafood would be flown in six days a week. I don't know if that is holding true or not. (Not sure if I informed you guys here on C-D, but I went back to my old job. )

It's obviously a matter of DEMAND and taste of the local populace because FEDEX delivers a TON of fresh fish and other commodities not found 'locally' OVERNIGHT.....so does DHL, and UPS....
No demand equals no supply ! these people don't EAT a lot of FISH !!
try fried chicken or pork chops for godssake....that may be more indicative
of the local color!

I didn't say there were not certain restaurants that don't have good seafood dishes, heck Russo's has one of the best flounder dish I have ever had. However, coming from CT where one can get fresh clams, mussels, Maine lobster, cod, etc. at about any grocery store and then living in FL where you could get snapper, grouper, crabs of all kinds, and Brazilian lobster at about any grocery store, yea, I agree, you can't get fresh seafood here readily. When and if you do find it here it: 1. isn't near as fresh, 2. VERY expensive. 3. very few to choose from.
This is pretty standard in a lot of land lock states where you have to drive 5 or more hours to the nearest coast.
Again, we just do not have the demand or population for seafood in this area. If this is something someone is expecting when they move here, they will be disappointed.
