I need recommendation for good mechanic for Jeep Cherokee
Howdy all,
I need a recommendation for a good mechanic to do some work on my 99 Jeep Cherokee, anyone know a good, non price gouging shop?
I need alignment, shock, tune up, electrical work done. I hate to get robbed and need good work done.
Johnson City/Jonesborough/Elizabethon area's considered, but I live between Elizabethon and JC, but work in Bristol.
Thanks
Tony

If you work in Bristol, try "Fairmount". They are at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Maple St. in Bristol TN. They do good work at reasonable rates.

check out East Tennessee Foreign Car Service. Yes, I know a Jeep is not a foreign car, but they do work on a lot of things. I've used them off and on since I was a teen. My last experience with them was about two years ago, when I drove from Atlanta to get work done. They replaced my clutch (after telling me it could go another 15K miles -- but they charged less than half what it costs everywhere in Atlanta to replace one, so I said go ahead and replace it). I also asked them to replace my rear drum brakes. They said they were fine and simply needed an adjustment and saved me money there. Total less than $400 vs. ~$1,000 or more down here (I called around).
They don't do alignments, but I think they do most of the other stuff.
I believe the original owner (Dennis Huffine) is retired, but I was always impressed with the others there as well... the only car place I've ever patronized where I thought they had true integrity.

I have to recommend Dan's Auto Repair. He's on Okolona (off South Roan). Good, honest man....not out to rip you off by any means.

I highly recommend Auto Electric on W. Market st. . They are very honest and dependable. All the techs there are certified and they do the job right.

H-Tech in Gray, a friend of mine knows the owner. I had a bad experience with Auto-Electric. DM me if you want more info.

I can agree with the Fairmont recommendation. I have had my car serviced there one time. He did good work for a very reasonable price.

My poor Jeep is shaking like a wet puppy ;-) I need to get that puppy looked at, I've called a couple of the places but they either don't do alignments or don't work on Jeeps (having any expertise).
Thanks again all, at what point do you not put more money into a vehicle? I've had my 1999 Jeep 5 years and it has 119k miles on it now, only worth 3k - 4k if sold, like most Jeeps. I'd like to keep it for my 15 yo who turns 16 next month, but perhaps I should look for a Crown Vic for him to drive (tank).
