Need Cheap lodging from October 24-31
So all of you know I'm planning my trip to east Tennesse around late October and I'm looking to either camp somewhere and save a little cash or stay at a cheap but chean hotel. Any suggestions? Is it too cold to camp in October down there? I'd rather have a warm room and soft bed, but.... So anyways if anyone knows of any cheap motels or hotels that are within 20 minutes of the tri cities please let me know.
Yippee, I finally get to visit!
Thanks, Josh

Josh, I have a son that is right about your age and I can't imagine my 20 year old taking off and driving to WI to look around. Is your Mom heartbroken? At any rate, I am sure that the fine folks here will recommend a decent, cheap place to stay. mbmouse is in the Tri Cities and I am in the Knoxville area (although I go to Tri Cities a lot and am from there). DM us if you want our contact info for while you're here. Be safe and have fun!

JoshB, you probably won't find late Oct. temps too cold for camping as long as you have a good sleeping bag & you're the fairly hardy sort. Depending on where you set up your tent, expect overnight lows ranging from the mid-30s to the upper 40s...IMO, that's fine camping weather!
Here are a few campground suggestions:
Kingsport (Colonial Heights): Warriors' Path State Park]TN State Parks: Warriors' Path State Park
Blountville: KOA
Bristol, VA: Sugar Hollow Park
Jonesborough: Persimmon Ridge Campground and Riverpark Campground
Erwin: Rock Creek Recreation Area

FWIW, Rock Creek Campground is very nice and it offers the best "wilderness" experience of all the campgrounds I've listed. It would also be the coldest option, about 5 degrees or so cooler than the others.
This is a pretty cool map that you might find useful; be sure to view at 100% zoom or more: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/cherokee/rec...r_Tab_2007.pdf
