They have just started construction of a new Lowes Home Improvement store in lovely Jonesborough, TN.

I saw they'd stripped all the trees out of that property. And the Bojangles is going in. All I can say is "look out" if you have to commute through there in the mornings. Between school speed limits and the school traffic, hungry drivers getting breakfast at Pal's and Bojangles AND Lowe's construction (which will inevitably close one lane!), it could take a good 30 minutes just to get through Jonesborough!
I still don't understand why they don't widen the 11-E through there to three lanes before it gets so developed that it will be much more difficult to do so.
And what will happen to the existing hardware? That Ace store is so picturesque. West Towne Hardware just in JC limits has already closed. I'm just wondering if we really need this Lowe's.
Sorry to be a bit off this morning, williboy. <g> I just liked those trees, darnit!

I'll take the backroads to Boones Creek Rd. and I-26 to Roan and just miss the mess. Alas, my wife works at the VA Hospital and will have to suffer through it.

If it gets really bad, she could cut down into downtown Jonesborough, turn left onto Main St., follow it as it turns into Walnut and dumps onto State of Franklin. If the state was smart (and/or well-funded) it would be working on I-226, an expressway running from JC through Jonesborough to Greeneville on the west, and up to Piney Flats on the east.

SMG, do you know where Pal's is in Jonesborough? Just right down the road from the middle school complex on the four lane. Lowe's is going in basically right beside it.

Ah, thanks jab. Kind of makes me sad in a way but it is just a sign of the times.

Just up the road from the new Wal-Mart and strip mall....pretty soon it will be hard to define the separation in between JC and Jonesborough.

None of the transplants that I know can ever figure out where Johnson City ends anyway. I always tell them, "somewhere around that humongous junkyard."

I was under the mistaken impression that Lowes was going to keep most of those trees and not have an entrance off 11E. I thought the entrance was going to be off headtown rd. I too, liked those trees. I was also sad when the trees were cleared off the land right before you turn to Wetlands.
Also, if you look down 11E there are at least 10 pieces of property for sale. In 10 years, we will not be able to recognize that stretch of road.
